Hello to all review readers.
Me and my 2 friends went to amsterdam and stayed on the 30th of june till the 2nd of july 2006 for the id&t sensation white event at the amsterdam arena, and our choice of hotel was the hotel rho.

On first impression when we found the doorway into the hotel, we were all very impressed with how clean, tidy and very presentable the place was.
It is a converted museum or hall or something because the main reception is huge and very grand looking.
We were welcomed by a nice lady who spoke great english and who booked us in and gave us our door card to room 111 which was at the back of the hotel.
We entered the room to be impressed again which was very clean and tidy with all amenities inc: tv, bath/shower, towels, wardrobe with hangers, fridge, fan, hairdryer, table and chairs, bedside lamps, full length mirror, big wide opening window (although never any breeze) and not to forget 3 very nicley made soft clean comfy beds.

The next morning we all went to breakfast and again we were all very impressed with the buffet they had put on.
The range to pick from was tremendous, oh my they had it all except slice sausage and tattie scone, which we soon forgot about because of the choice we had in front of us.

So all in all this hotel was absolute perfect for 3 lads going to amsterdam for the weekend. Dont get me wrong it was not 5 star high class swanky town, but it was defo above average and very clean and presentable.
It was great value for money, just for that little feeling of security and comfort, and it is perfectly located just 2 steps from dam square which is the main centre point of amsterdam. I wish i had photos of the hotel to show you, but no dought you will see if you are looking for hotels on the websites.

Just like to add, the 5 friends we went with decided to stay in a cheaper hotel/hostel and let me tell you, it is not worth it at all. Their room was like small squashed army barracks with broken crappy beds, tiny bathroom, didnt look and feel clean and just had that dodgy feeling about it. Pay that tiny little bit extra for comfort and security and you will get it at this hotel, which we will definetley be back at, perfect.

I stayed here for 3 nights. There were 3 of us sharing a room. We paid over the odds for the room I feel. 535 euro for the 3 nights for the 3 of us.There was a bit of a heatwave while we were there and the room had no aircon. The temp was at least 30 deg in the room, it was like a sauna. I just happened to have become ill on arrival with a vomiting bug and had to spend most of the time in bed. I explained this to the reception, who could not put me in a room with an aircon, as she said they were all taken.
Apart from that, the floorboards creaked, the matresses were too soft, the "fridge" hardly could have been called a fridge as nothing was kept cold, only slightly cool.
The smell of smoke in this hotel is appalling (I am a social smoker but only smoke outside) But it was the most disgusting smell. There is no room service, and no kettle in the room either..................
what more can I say???????

We were please with our stay, very friendly staff who were only to happy to help, good sized room and great breakfast. But as with all hotels there were a few faults. Beds were very soft, we were on the 4th floor so it was very hot, could of done with air conditioning. We had to leave the window open all night and, as we looked out onto a street, we could hear loud music and people leaving bars at all hours of the night. There also seemed to be a shortage of large towels which lead to us asking at reception repeatedly.

For the amount of time we actually spent in the room though it was fine for us and we would stay again.

We stayed at the Hotel Rho @ the end of May. It had been recommended by a friend. The hotel was clean, our room was fairly small, no view at all, a roof and another roof!! The bathroom sink leaked and the showerhead just flopped to one side. The room was quiet considering it was backing onto the lift. The breakfast was good and plentiful.A fairly average hotel, excellent location. One thing did however bother us,on our final night about half one in the morning,a man came into our room!He had obviously got the wrong room but his plastic key fob had given him access into our room! We informed the staff the next morning who said they would check and change the code.I personally wouldn't go back and stay at the Hotel Rho.

We stayed at the RHO hotel for 3 days in May 2006 and overall was happy with the hotel.

We stayed on the top (4th) floor in room 440. The room itself was large and clean, with a reasonably large sized bathroom. Being the top floor, the corridor had a Dutch style sloping roof, but the room did not. The room looked inward into a courtyard (of sorts), so there was little external noise, but also little ventilation. This resulted in having to keep the window wide open 24 hours just to get some cool air – this would be a big problem in the hot summer – so maybe ask for a street view room

Booked directly on hotel website and for a twin room, we paid 130 euro per night for midweek and 155 for weekend. By Amsterdam standards this represents average to good value for the quality of hotel.

Positive things:
- Location – just off Dam Square on Ness Street is great.
- Reasonably big bedroom and bathroom size
- Reasonably good value for money
- Good breakfast choice
- In room safe

Negative things:
- Room very hot / poor ventilation
- Floorboards very squeaky
- Hot water fluctuated hot/cold in shower on occasions
- Only 1 lift, so had to wait a lot
- In need of decor update
- Sheets and heavy blankets, not duvets on bed
- Beds very soft
- Not very secure luggage store (for leaving luggage when check out)
- Silly payment policy

Final note on payment policy: I booked using my credit card and paid 50% bill up front on arrival using my credit card. However, on the last night, when we returned at 3am our room locks had been changed and the night porter refused to let us in unless we paid the outstanding balance there and then. He told us this was standard Dutch policy – which it is not. I complained the following morning and got an apology from the duty manger, who said it was a misunderstanding. I was annoyed by this – as implication was we would ‘do a runner’ without paying out bill. However, the apology was sufficient.

Overall, I would stay again.
