“Good hotel, great location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

Rho Hotel's location, right on Dam Square, puts everything you could want in Amsterdam within easy reach - yet our rooms, at the back (281 & 283) were incredibly quiet. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful. Our rooms were both larger than expected, if with slightly odd geometry due to the converted houses nature of the hotel. Both were clean and well presented, although the bathrooms could do with updating and there was very little storage space despite plenty of places to put it! The breakfasts had more choice than we were expecting, including scrambled eggs, bacon and hot rice as well as breads, cheese, ham, pastries, etc; the pancakes were delicious and there was always plenty of fruit. Stairs within the hotel were normal for Amsterdam - steep! - but there were several lifts.
We would stay here again!

Room Tip: For quieter rooms, go for the back.

All in all, I would say about this hotel: OK. Apart from its really ideal location at Dam Square (in a side street) and the very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful reception staff, everything else is far from ideal, including the price. The hotel consists of several buildings attached to each other. Mansard-type rooms on the highest floor are obviously a result of an addition and partition (this is why some walls are made of non-solid materials). The bed, however, has a quality matress which offers a good night's sleep. Breakfast is standard for this hotel category. If you do not like filter coffee, there is a coffee automat in the lobby with excellent espresso (1 EUR). There is also a small Internet office with two computers (one with printing possibility), free of charge. If you cannot afford the adjacent Grand Krasnapolski hotel, the Rho would be a satisfactory option. When I think twice, I would return to the Rho - because of its LOCATION!

I can start saying it was the best bed I ever had in a hotel! Excellent sleeping comfort. If you want to experience Amsterdam you should choose this hotel. It's not such a good value for money, but the location is great. Everything is in short walking distance. The breakfast was good, it surprised me that they had fresh pressed orange juice at breakfast. Otherwise, good breakfast with eggs, bacon, pancakes, cornflakes, vegetables and so on. The staff is actullay nothing special, they smile and say hello, that's it. At our first entrance, while we were standing as new quests by the reception the receptonist did not even look at us because she sat in the phone, that doesn't mean you can't look up and give a smile.

The smoke detector in the room was covered and folded in plastic! That is dangerous! I think I found the cleaningstaff a little lazy. About the daily cleaning it's fine, but the telephone was sticky and dirty. I did not find out how to call the reception. It was mold in bathroom sealing. Otherwise I liked the hotel, best location to visit Amsterdam. Even though I did not felt the money was worth it. The location is great and the hotel it self is average/good.

6 of us stayed here for 2 nights and everything was fine. Good location. Rooms were clean and got cleaned daily. Breakfast was very good with a good and varied choice. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. We arrived at 10.30am and as our rooms were available we got access right away. Would stay here again if we ever decide to go back to Amsterdam.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back on the 4th Floor

Hotel Rho is an excellent hotel when you are on a tight budget in expensive Amsterdam. Superb value for money on a perfect position near De Dam. Good breakfast and very friendly staff. Ask for a quiet room at the back.

I was in a business trip to Wageningen (close to Amsterdam) I had only one night in Amsterdam and only half of a day to walk surroundings. So I chose the RHO hotel based on the location. I didn't my choice because I was in the middle of the main attractions, and located few steps from the the start point of my 3-hour tour.

I asked for a room in the highest floors, because I've read people complaining about the noise from the street. My room for one person was tiny, but all the facilities were planned to offer a pleasant stay: a place to put and open your luggage, a small desk, small fridge, a average-sized bathroom with all the bath amenities and nice shower.

The internet wifi didn`t worked during my stay, only in the lobby. The breakfast was excellent, much more than I expected. Kind and helpful reception staff.

So I indicate this hotel for those people who want to visit Amsterdam and don`t have 30min to spend with transport. For those ones with more time, there are cheaper accommodations with great options of public transportation.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the 3rd or 4th floor, or facing the courtyard.

Excellent location for everything in the city centre and not too far from the main railway station.

Hotel staff very helpful on giving advice on how to get to places and there was always a greeting when arriving our leaving.

Rooms were basic, no storage space for clothes even though the large room was big enough for a wardrobe to be added. Room was very clean and quiet. Whist no evening meals were served there were plenty of reasonable restaurants around the corner.

We would stay again.
