First of all, Merel and Susan are great hosts. Communication was timely and complete, leaving us no worries about our arrival and our stay. We met Merel upon arrival and she accommodated all of our needs and answered our questions. You won't find better hosts.

The location is very good - everything is easy to get to from here, although many of the shops in the 9 Streets district close early. It is a safe area night and day. The cafe next door has excellent coffee/espresso drinks and some breakfast items. There is a market 3 blocks away so we brought food into our room for breakfast and late dinners.

The place itself is great. It is modern with nice amenities such as free wi-fi and free minibar items. Most importantly, the room was clean. The bed is comfortable and the size of our suite (Reestraat) was very spacious. The living area faces the street, which is not very noisy at night. The shower and toilet in this suite are in the middle of the living area and the bedroom. (Note: The shower area is enclosed in glass so there is no privacy, and the main sink is inside the glass enclosure. There is also a small sink inside the toilet room)

I highly recommend staying here and I'd definitely stay here again. Five stars for Hotel IX are well-deserved.

The only downside was that we had two heavy pieces of luggage and there are no elevators. Reestraat Suite is at the top level (3 flights of narrow stairs). There are no street level rooms, but no problem for us. Totally worth the weight lifting exercise.

Enjoyed a lovely and relaxed prolongued weekend in Amsterdam. Just LOVED the hotel! There is no reception at the hotel, you will receive a self check-in code and have to figure out how it works, but it's definitely no rocket science :-) And yes - it all worked perfectly well. Here's some of our highlights:
+ great location and a good starting point to discover a slightly different Amsterdam - nearly tourist-less, plenty of lovely little boutiques, bars, restaurants, cafes, etc.
+ a really nice spacious room, furnished with great love for the detail - definitely a highlight!
+ very friendly and efficient service (thank you, Susan and Merel!)
+ a welcome bottle of wine (and a really good one, for that matter :-)) and all drinks in the minibar free of charge
+ plenty of "what do do" and "where to go" suggestions in the room (worth a read, really!)

And here's a little fly in the ointment:
- we both found the bed slightly too soft, but this really is a matter of personal preferences
- we'll have to agree with one of the previous comments about the sound-control challenge in the bathroom ;-))

In conclusion, it's a great place to stay, we loved it and will definitely go back!

A great little boutique hotel. In the middle of the pitoresk nine streets. Merel and Susan are very friendly and welcoming hosts. Lots of nice restaurants and bars within walking distance. The room was lovely decorated. Complimentary mini bar en free wifi. We will be back!

Room Tip: We had the Wolvenstraat suite, which was at the back of the hotel. It was very quiet!

We stayed for 2 nights and found it very clean and comfortable. Beds are great and the shower room was lovely. The free help yourself mini bar was a nice surprise and we enjoyed the wine and coffee/tea availability. The breakfast in the cafe next door was great and the positioning in the area was superb. Advice in emails beforehand was very helpful and the ladies running it are so nice and work hard to ensure you are happy and helped with continuing guidance.

Location is perfect, within one of the most beautiful parts of Amsterdam, all cool shops, cafés and restaurants just around the corner but the hotel is very peaceful and tranquile so you can sit down and relax from your busy day in Amsterdam. Beautifully renovated, would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: The huidenstraat suite is situated at the back, making it really peaceful and gives you a peek into...

An unique experience in a one-of-a-kind property! When a hotel is made from the heart it has to be excellent, and the owners/managers (Susan when I visited) went beyond my expectations. A great place in a perfect area of Amsterdam. I will return!
