“Best weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2014

Stayed here from 17th-19th of jan, so easy to find from the central train station, 5 mins walk. Staff were welcoming and looked after our bags until we could check in. Bed was extremely comfortable and breakfast was alright nothing really special but very handy to have after a night out. 10 min walk from red light district. That area is always buzzing and there is alot to see, loved it! make sure you take enough money so that you are able to do all the little things that are available to do. The first night we went to see a sex show, So so so funny! cannot wait to book a trip back in the summer!

I booked this hotel because it had received higher ratings than many 4 star hotels and was working out slightly cheaper with breakfast included than the others would have been. I wish I had gone with the 4 stars.
Upon check in we were greeted by a male receptionist. He ran through hotel info quickly and took payment, this was where customer service ended. The reception appeared clean and well maintained but the hallway leading to bedroom was a gaudy metallic purple with a dirty purple carpet, could do with an update.
Our room (35) was nicely decorated with a flat screen TV and large bed. Unfortunately the bed sheet consisted of two singles joined together and the duvet had a lovely plastic under cover, apart from this the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was clean and modern with a bath and fantastic power shower, there was no extraction in the bathroom, nor were there any face cloths or more worryingly bath mats making for a rather slippery floor. The hotel toiletries consisted of one bottle of very soapy smelling liquid, an all in one, bring your own toiletries if at all fussy.
There are no tea or coffee making facilities in the room, this I was already aware of prior to booking. The website states "tea or coffee on request". On our first morning we didn't get up for breakfast as being parents to a 5 month old we enjoyed a well deserved lie in. When I got up I called reception to request a cup of tea and a coffee. I was told very bluntly "we don't offer room service" so if you want a coffee in your room you have to get dressed and make your way down to reception to bring it back up your self. We just went out for coffee in the end as the staff seemed so unhelpful. On our second night we returned to the hotel at 1am and stood outside the locked side door for at least 10 minutes waiting for someone to answer it, we had been informed the night porter was on duty but really there should be some way of using your key card to get in.
We didn't have breakfast in the hotel in the end so may as well have booked a more luxurious hotel, will try the Amsterdam American next time.
I work in a hotel and would fear for my job if I was as unhelpful and surly towards customers as the staff in this hotel are, customer service is most obviously not a priority to these folks.

Our first trip Amsterdam we found our stay comfortable and very welcoming and value for money.
The hotel was in a great location and short walk from Centraal Station.
The hotel reception was always friendly and happy to help. Check in was quick and efficient. Wifi was a bonus.
Breakfast was continental serving coffee, teas, cereals and selection of cold meats.
Overall I would recommend this hotel and would stay again.

Lovely hotel very close to the Centraal station and the old city centre. Staff were always friendly, helpful and welcoming. We did have cause to complain about the noise from the room above on our first night until the early hours, and not only did reception move us to a different room, but also said they would speak to the guests involved to avoid a repeat with subsequent guests. So, very well handled all round.

Breakfast is continental style and served in the multi function reception/bar/ breakfast area. In reality it is much better than that sounds, and actually a very relaxing atmosphere. The breakfast itself was very fresh, and unlimited, including tea & coffee.

There were a couple of minor negative points I found with this hotel. Firstly, as there are no tea & coffee facilities in the rooms this could be provided free to guests in the reception area. Coffee is only €2, but still, I think it would be a nice touch. Secondly, the bathrooms are beginning to look tired. There are some signs of a refit, but since these are exposed screw holes and cut tiles it overshadows whatever new bits have been added. Really not a big problem, and I'm being fussy for the sake of an honest review, but it's these things that make it four instead of five stars.

All said though, for proximity to the station and the centre, along with comfort, price, and friendly staff I wouldn't think twice about returning to, or recommending this hotel. In fact two years ago I reviewed hotel JL no.76 in amsterdam. It was dearer than Sint Nicolaas but perhaps a little better at pulling off a boutique hotel style. It was also further away from the centre, and the station. Taking everything into account, of the two, I'd probably choose the Sint Nicolaas.

Room Tip: If you're not used to urban noise perhaps ask for a room on the side of the hotel away from the...

Clean room, great location, and good breakfast.

We had a triple room, only disappointing was no Aircondition.

The location was really perfect, close to Central Station so was easy to find.

I really liked the decorations in the hotel.

Very helpful staff with great recommendations for activities, shopping, and restaurants. You can purchase tickets for attractions at the desk. Daily breakfast from 7-10am includes fruit, toast, cold cuts of meat and cheese, hard boiled eggs, coffees and teas. We requested the largest room, which was room 26, and were not disappointed. There was plenty of space, had a double bed. & a single bed. Very comfortable. Location of hotel was very convenient and close to Amsterdam's central train station. There are also trams and buses that run by the hotel. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again!
