I was very pleased with the Hotel Fita! Loes met me with a drink when I arrived, which set a very good mood. The rooms were very clean and well appointed, the room had a ceiling fan, windows that open for fresh air, and great water pressure in the shower. They offer laundry services, free phone calls to the US, and free Internet service. The breakfast is delicious and even includes scrambled eggs and bacon! It is located on a quiet street in the museum area, far from the racy and noisy parts of Amsterdam, but there are plenty of restaurants nearby, and a tram line. Loes and Hans are very helpful, and go out of their way to make people comfortable. I would stay there again!

Great location in quiet residential area – close to museums, easy access walk/tram to everywhere in the city and beyond. Room spotlessly clean and fresh, good breakfast and great coffee. Loes gave us first rate information on what is available to see and do in Amsterdam – invaluable to any visitor. We had a very enjoyable stay at Hotel Fita. Highly recommended – would stay again.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel in april 2007. We got an standard double room, and stayed there for 4 nights.

It is an average hotel:

1. the location is not bad (just opposite to Van Gogh's museum, well-served by tram's lines, and about 15-20 minutes from Centraal Station by tram);
2. the staff is fine;
3. the breakfeast is okay;
4. the room was fairly clean.

Overall, an average stay. Neverthless, this is not a hotel for people that like to party: breakfeast is quite early from 7h30 to 9h30, and just around 9h30 they are knocking on your door to see if they can clean your room. On the good side you have free internet access (computer next to breakfeast room); free calls anywhere in the world (that is actually the highlight of the hotel in my opinion); and free laundry.

I think we'd stay there again.

I am an active participant on Trip Advisor. My husband and I do quite a bit of traveling for business and pleasure and we never hesitate to rely on trip advisor's reviews. The reviews are usually accurate about the hotels we have stayed in. At the time we made our reservation at the Fita Hotel it was listed as #5 on trip advisor for hotels in Amsterdam. Unfortunately after spending four nights at the Fita, we don't share the high esteem this hotel has received.

The best thing about the Fita hotel is the location. The hotel is in the museum district and one block away from the "ritziest" shopping street in Amsterdam. It is a quiet, convenient and safe neighborhood.

Upon arriving at the Fita Hotel we were greeted by Roel, one of the workers who was very friendly and showed us our room. During the rest of our stay, we did not see anyone at the front desk, it was always deserted. It would have been nice at times to see someone at the front desk to ask some simple questions. In fact, we needed walking directions to a local restaurant to meet a friend and my husband called the number on the in-room information card. The man who answered the phone acted like he was being disturbed at 7:00pm. When my husband said to him, "How are you doing?" He replied, "I'm tired". Not very friendly.

The only time you did see any staff was at breakfast. The breakfast was adequate. Fresh squeezed orange juice, eggs, bacon, cheeses , rolls, and yogurt with fruit. Breakfast is served until 10:00am on weekends and until 9:30am on weekdays. Since we arrived on a Saturday evening all we were told by Roel breakfast was from 8:00-10:00, so on Monday morning we showed up at 9:45am and was greeted "Sorry, you missed breakfast". We explained we were not told it ended at 9:30am on the weekdays, and they "Sorry" and we left without breakfast.

The worst part about the Fita hotel was the cleanliness of the room while we were staying there. Our garbage was not emptied everyday. Along with the garbage can was broken and we told them about it and it was not fixed or replace. The worst was our soiled bed linens were not changed for three straight days. This was inexcusable & shameful and should be an embarrassement to the hotel.

Overall at 140 euros a night the Fita hotel was a total disappointment. I guess you are paying for the location because you are certainly not paying for the friendliness, the food and definitely not the cleanliness of the hotel. Next time, we will choose a different hotel.
