“Perfect place to stay and hated to leave!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2009

This hotel is an absolute jewel. It is located on a quiet residential street very close to the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum but the tram stop is so close you can be in the center of Amsterdam within minutes.

From the moment you walk in until the time you check out you feel like you have stayed with warm, caring and delightful friends. Hans and Loes make you feel at home and are the epitome of the welcoming hosts. The rooms are so clean you could eat off the floor. The beds are firm with crisp, clean sheets and comfortable pillows. The TV is a flat screen, there is an expresso machine to make delicious coffee and the bathroom has the best water pressure I have ever experienced. Did I mention how clean it was!

The breakfast was very filling with eggs, bacon, rolls, crossiants, yougart, cereal, coffee, tea, fresh fruit, pancakes and various other things. You won't leave hungry if you take advantage of that breakfast. Hans and Loes are a font of information and will tell you anything you need to know. The rest of the hotel staff is extremely friendly and just as welcoming. There is free international and local calls, free internet and they will do your laundry for you. However you will still have to fold...but, hey who cares!

There is a very small elevator that is barely big enough for one person and luggage but my son and I managed with our two bags. If you are feeling fit you can always go up the typical dutch staircase, winding and narrow. We went down but usually went up by the elevator.

The area around the hotel is incredibly safe and quiet. There is a school across the street and when the kids come out for recess there can be quite a bit of yelling but even though our room overlooked this area we hardly heard the kids. They have very good windows that block out sound. But you shouldn't even be in your room when the kids are playing. You should be out exploring Amsterdam!

All in all, my son and I had a delightful stay and would highly recommend this place to anyone going there. In fact a friend is leaving on Monday and will be staying there on my recommendation. When I return to Amsterdam (and yes I will be going back) the Hotel Fita is where I will be!

Hotel Fita is ideal if you want a smallish no-nonsense place with plenty of friendly service--in a great location. Innkeeper Hans is great fun and makes you feel right at home. Breakfasts were very good and the staff adjusted their serving times for us when we had to catch an early flight our last morning there. Our room was adequate and pleasant with a large bathroom-- though not luxurious. But who wants to pay for luxurious? I hightly recommend Hotel Fita.

Very friendly, helpful staff, a nice safe location and good breakfasts - remember to get your freshly made pancakes and fresh orange juice-all with a smile! The poor exchange rate for the £ made the room and food etc more expensive than we have been used to in Europe but as long as you know this before you go you won't be shocked by the prices.
We both had a lovely time just wandering along the Nine Canals in the very welcome sunshine!

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Fita in April 2009 for 10 nights. It was the second time we stayed there, and if ever going back to Amsterdam we will book at Hotel Fita again.

The hotel is located perfectly in a quiet street near museums, concerthall and public transportation, but actually in walking distance from the central part of Amsterdam.

It's a family run hotel and the staff is very helpfull with advise and suggestions.

From the second you arrive in this incredibly well located hotel, Hans and Loes make you feel at home. We were traveling with a teenage son and were given two rooms together that were ideal--small (which is normal for Europe), but with comfortable beds, an espresso machine in the room, and large windows. Within minutes of checking in, Hans brought in a tray of champagne and nuts and helped us figure out the city, the transportation, and the highlights. We were within 2 blocks of the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijks Museum, and sites along the canals were an easy 20 minute walk. The trollies and a big square with every concievable type of restaurant are 5 minutes away. The street parallel to the hotel has incredible high end shopping, and around the corner, an incredible bakery and coffee place.
Hans and Loes provided wonderful breakfasts of eggs, bacon, croissants, fruit, yogurt, cereal, and always pancakes-made-to-order, plus fresh made pots of coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice.
A computer and printer are available at all time for no charge, and we were happy to find out that we could call out daughter in Paris for free---and they gave us free laundry service (you do the folding!). I can't say enough how hard they work to make Hotel Fita a spotless, friendly, jewel of a small hotel---We would take this over any anonymous 5 star hotel any day, and will plan to stay their on our next trip.

Loved the Hotel Fita. It was a perfect location. It was close to everything, including the museums,. Leidseplain, trams and restaurants. Hans and Loes are onsite all the time to assist with your needs. Yes, the single room was the smallest hotel room I've ever seen in my life, but it was spotlessly clean, had a nice tv and included FREE phone calls which I've never heard of before. We were greeted with a glass of the most amazing sparkling wine (Hans, I forgot to ask you the name of it) and nuts upon our arrival. And if Hans asks if you want a pancake, say yes. You won't regret it. Breakfasts were hearty and delicious. You can smell the cooking from your room.

My only comments (not complaints - just suggestions) is that the amenities in the bathroom are somewhat utilitarian. They provide shampoo and body gel (in one) so if you like little bottles of good smelling stuff, you'll need to bring your own. But this is minor. They even did my laundry and delivered it free to my room. You gotta love a hotel like that. Very friendly, warm and clean. And as for those nasty children at the school, you shouldn't be in your room while they are outside playing. YOU should be outside playing in Amsterdam!!

In two trips to Europe in the past year and a dozen hotels, Hotel Fita was the best. Hans and Loes (the owners) and the rest of the staff are absolutely fantastic and unbelievably welcome. The location is great, just a block from the Van Gogh museum, and easily within walking distance to Leidseplein and really anywhere else in the city.

If you're interested in more than just a room to stay in, but a great environment as well, then you should stay here. Everything from check in to breakfast was filled with friendly conversation. Hans and Loes truly care about their guests and it shows.

If/when I return to Amsterdam, there is no doubt in my mind that I would stay at Hotel Fita again.
