“Fita - I wouldn't stay elsewhere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2014

This is a small hotel run by a charming group of young people. Although it isn't a luxury hotel, it offers great value, especially if you plan to visit the museum district. I can't say enough about helpfulness of the staff, as well as the delicious pancakes they cook for breakfast. The rooms are large enough to be comfortable. The location is quiet, yet only a stone's throw from the Van Gogh museum as well as the central tram 5 line. The picture of the remodeled lobby looks great! (It was under construction during our visit.)

Spent four nights at the Hotel Fita at the beginning of April for our first visit to Amsterdam. It is situated in a quiet, attractive part of the city close to the main museum area and the large green spaces of Vondelpark and Museumplein. It is also close to the excellent Amsterdam transport system which we used during our stay having bought a three day pass for 16 Euros each which we considered excellent value. There are also plenty of really good places to eat within easy walking distance.

The Fita team are all enthusiastic, helpful and friendly and were a very good source of information about sightseeing and eating out. Our spacious room on the first floor had a large bay window overlooking a pedestrian thoroughfare, a comfortable bed and a decent sized well equipped bathroom. The stairs throughout the building are steeper than we are used to in the UK which is good for the thighs but there is a small lift to all the floors if needed. The breakfast room on the lower ground floor is compact and gets quite crowded if all the residents descend at the same time. However the choice of food is quite varied and the warm Dutch pancakes, prepared to order, are definitely worth a try.

We enjoyed our stay very much and would certainly use the hotel again if we return to Amsterdam.

I don't think we could've picked a better hotel than this one for my first time in Amsterdam.

Less than a minute's walk from the Van Gogh museum, two minutes further from the Rijksmuseum and Vondelpark, near to the canal for boat rides, across the road from two tram lines which run to Amsterdam Centraal train station, the location was absolutely ideal. The staff at this family-run hotel are lovely - we arrived an hour before check-in, they were happy to let us leave our luggage with them as we explored for a while (with a map helpfully provided by the girl at reception, with routes, attractions and transport circled for us). Upon our return, our bags were waiting in our room for us.

The room itself was spacious and comfortable, the bathroom is huge and the free Nespresso-esque coffee machine is a welcome addition, particularly if you return to the hotel after several hours shopping and need a pick-me-up before you head back out for the evening/night!

Interestingly for a continental European hotel, the fantastic breakfast buffet includes bacon and eggs - which will please the British Tourists who insist on full English garb when they travel abroad. The more broad-minded traveller will be very happy with their selection of cheeses, pastries and fruits, and in particular the homemade cooked-to-order pancakes, which are delicious.

I would highly recommend this recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Amsterdam, but particularly those planning on spending their times in museums and on the canals. It made my stay in the city all the more enjoyable.

Stayed at this hotel last weekend, the staff are very friendly and efficient, the room was clean, bright and comfortable. Loved the breakfasts, Staff very helpful with questions and advice on where to eat and best times to visit the museums, would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Amsterdam.

This family run boutique hotel offers the personal touch and local flavour so lacking in larger establishments. The room was attractively decorated, spotlessly clean, spacious, with a view onto the quiet pedestrian area below. A safe, bathroom with bath, nespresso machine. The room was very welcoming to return to after the day's sightseeing. The breakfast was excellent with a variety of cereals, nuts, seeds, dried and fresh fruits, yoghurt, various breads and cheese. Scrambled egg and bacon available at the buffet and freshly made pancakes ( French style crepes) offered. The breakfast room is light and colourful and the staff attentive and cheerful. The hotel is a 20 euro taxi ride from the train station but on our return we took the tram; very easy. The Van Gogh museum is is just around the corner and the Rijksmuseum close by. The Blue Boat canal tours are 5 minutes away and saves having to go the station where so many other boats start their tours. Roel was able to make helpful suggestions for restaurants and we had good meals at the Seafood Bar and Hap Hmm both close and not in the tourist eating area. The hotel is deserving of its reputation and reasonably priced for Amsterdam. Roel went out of his way to make us welcome and comfortable.

Second stay at Hotel Fita. Here's why: perfect location (4 museums, great concert hall, big Vondelpark, supermarket, restaurants, trams 2 and 5 that will take you almost everywhere...), pleasant neighbourhood, quiet room (not much traffic on the street, pedestrian passage and playground for children from nearby school), very friendly staff and enthusiastic young manager who will bend over backwards to make your stay as pleasant as possible. He's working on adding 5 rooms on the top floor, which is good news because the current 15 rooms get booked so quickly and because the hotel will still be small and cosy. His passion for his job is so contagious that I asked to have a look at them and Hotel Fita fans, you have something to look forward to because they'll be very cute and practical ensuite (shower) rooms when they're finished. I'll be back next year for the outstanding museums and Concertgebouw and also because it's so interesting to see how this hardworking young man's business is evolving.

Room Tip: Solo traveler, light sleeper more interested in quietness than view, thought room 38 was perfect

In less than half hour from Schiphol airport I arrived at Hotel Fita, which is situated in a delightful area filled with art deco buildings in the Museum quarter. It was whisper quiet but with a huge selection of eating establishments close by (within walking distance) and the tram at the end of the street (approx 300mtrs and very easy to use). For those who love to shop at high end stores, they’re just down the street. Around the corner are these museums: the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh, Stedelijk and the Diamant. The Amsterdam Concert Hall is nearby as is Vondelpark.
Hotel Fita is an art deco, boutique size (15 rooms I think) family run establishment headed by Roel, who is an extremely capable, polite and helpful young man and his co-workers. I needed to change my bookings due to health issues and he was understanding and accommodating. He welcomed me as a friend when I finally arrived after 3 false starts. Mind by that time we probably were friends, so many emails had been exchanged! Booking was easy; direct with the hotel.
Hotel Fita lived up to Trip Advisor reviews, it was clean and comfortable. I booked a single room which although not spacious was more than adequate with a decent size comfortable single bed, single wardrobe, desk, chair and ensuite with shower (no bath) and toilet. Included in the room was a Nescafe machine for those who “do” coffee; tea making facilities were also provided. The room had a flat screen TV (although I really didn’t find out what channels were available), safe for your valuables, hairdryer and toiletries provided. Near the breakfast room is a small nook with a desktop computer (which I did use, this worked well) and an honour bar with drinks and snacks.
There is a lift from the top floor to the breakfast room, (mind the lift is tiny like 2 people and their luggage) but you don’t have to negotiate the treacherously narrow Dutch stairs :).
The breakfast room is tucked slightly below street level offering views outside without passersby realising that you are there. The decor isn’t ornate or flashy; it’s spotlessly clean and practical. Who needs flash when you have hosts like I did? I found the selection for breakfast more than adequate; cereals, toast, hot and cold selections, coffee, tea, juices, fruit, yogurt and probably other things I have forgotten. Everything was fresh and tasty.
If your require information for sightseeing or bookings to some venues just ask Roel and his team.
The clientele was a mixed aged group but probably more 50+ than younger.
I stayed July 2013 and 5 nights (including a weekend), vat, city tax and breakfast cost less than E570.00; I felt good value for money. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to friends.
