“So glad I chose Hotel Fita”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2014

In less than half hour from Schiphol airport I arrived at Hotel Fita, which is situated in a delightful area filled with art deco buildings in the Museum quarter. It was whisper quiet but with a huge selection of eating establishments close by (within walking distance) and the tram at the end of the street (approx 300mtrs and very easy to use). For those who love to shop at high end stores, they’re just down the street. Around the corner are these museums: the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh, Stedelijk and the Diamant. The Amsterdam Concert Hall is nearby as is Vondelpark.
Hotel Fita is an art deco, boutique size (15 rooms I think) family run establishment headed by Roel, who is an extremely capable, polite and helpful young man and his co-workers. I needed to change my bookings due to health issues and he was understanding and accommodating. He welcomed me as a friend when I finally arrived after 3 false starts. Mind by that time we probably were friends, so many emails had been exchanged! Booking was easy; direct with the hotel.
Hotel Fita lived up to Trip Advisor reviews, it was clean and comfortable. I booked a single room which although not spacious was more than adequate with a decent size comfortable single bed, single wardrobe, desk, chair and ensuite with shower (no bath) and toilet. Included in the room was a Nescafe machine for those who “do” coffee; tea making facilities were also provided. The room had a flat screen TV (although I really didn’t find out what channels were available), safe for your valuables, hairdryer and toiletries provided. Near the breakfast room is a small nook with a desktop computer (which I did use, this worked well) and an honour bar with drinks and snacks.
There is a lift from the top floor to the breakfast room, (mind the lift is tiny like 2 people and their luggage) but you don’t have to negotiate the treacherously narrow Dutch stairs :).
The breakfast room is tucked slightly below street level offering views outside without passersby realising that you are there. The decor isn’t ornate or flashy; it’s spotlessly clean and practical. Who needs flash when you have hosts like I did? I found the selection for breakfast more than adequate; cereals, toast, hot and cold selections, coffee, tea, juices, fruit, yogurt and probably other things I have forgotten. Everything was fresh and tasty.
If your require information for sightseeing or bookings to some venues just ask Roel and his team.
The clientele was a mixed aged group but probably more 50+ than younger.
I stayed July 2013 and 5 nights (including a weekend), vat, city tax and breakfast cost less than E570.00; I felt good value for money. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to friends.

This is an excellent family-run small hotel in Amsterdam, in an ideal location for the museums and transport to the airport and city centre. Very comfortable and clean room and en suite (with shower, not bath;) staff were very friendly and very helpful with all our many queries about transport and where to eat locally. Breakfast was included in our deal, and was very good. The hotel is located on a quiet street which runs parallel to the street with the main museums, the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh, and the Stedelijk, so it is perfect for museum visiting, as they are only a few minutes' walk away. Also, the airport bus, the 197, stops at the Rijksmuseum, as do trams 2 and 5 which run to Central Station, and which we used to get to the city centre, so it could not be easier to get to the hotel from the airport, and then to get around the city. One thing to be aware of is that the lift is very small (max 3 people) and, like so many places in Amsterdam, the stairs are narrow and steep (we always used the lift as we were on the top floor) and the front steps are likewise quite steep. Overall, this is a very friendly, comfortable hotel in a great location, excellent value for money, and I will be recommending it to any of my friends who plan to visit Amsterdam.

The hotel is run by a team of cheerful and friendly young staff led by Raoul.
We were in room 32 which is on the second floor with a balcony overlooking a quiet street (after school hours!).The room was very clean and bright and the beds were very comfortable.
As mentioned by previous reviews, I would like to give a word of caution to those who have difficulty in walking. The stairs are very steep and narrow so be sure to ask for rooms on the ground floor. Even then, access to the hotel reception from the street level is via 7 steep steps.
When I was there I used the tiny lift all the time.
As for the location, for those who come to Amsterdam for culture: Rijksmuseum 5 minutes walk, Van Gogh 3 mins, Concertbegouw 5 minutes, Stedelijk 3 minutes.
Access to the transport network is equally convenient, tram and bus stops are a few minutes walk.

My wife and I stayed in the Hotel Fita while spending four days in Amsterdam. The hotel is clean, pleasant and a great bargain. Our room was bright with large windows overlooking a street that was closed to car traffic. A local school allowed their kids to play in that space during the daytime...a very jolly place. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. The owner helped us organize our 4 days in Amsterdam, with maps and loans from a small library of books covering local sights. The public transportation system in Amsterdam is somewhat confusing (3 different bus companies, city owned trolley system, etc) but he was patient and helped us figure out how to get around.

Getting to/from the airport to the hotel was remarkably cheap and easy. For only 5 Euros each, we took a public bus #197 which stops just two blocks from the hotel directly to/from the airport. (There are other options like taxis, hotel shuttles, and more, but the bus worked very well.) There are numerous busses and trollies which stop within a 5 min walk of the hotel. You can get anywhere from there.

Hotel Fita is also located just two blocks from several major museums, including the Rijks Museum and the van Gogh museum (which we visited late on Friday night when the crowds had dissipated -- it was great.

This small hotel is a family-run affair. I would guess there are only a dozen or fewer rooms in a tall, narrow building located in an upscale residential neighborhood near the major museums (think brownstone if you are from NYC, or town house.) It is a quiet enclave in an otherwise noisy and boisterous town. Roel (maybe 28 yrs old) is the owner, but his father is the painter/carpenter/handyman who was helping to renovate several rooms while we were there. (They were active during the daytime only, and their activities never bothered us.) Breakfasts are included, of course, and the food was excellent. They have an "honor bar" where you can go in the evening and help yourself to a drink if you want. They also have a computer/printer for guest use, so you can print out museum tickets that are cheaper to buy over the internet (and save you from standing on long lines during the day).

I would caution that persons with mobility issues might have a problem. There are maybe 8 steep steps from the street to the front door that have to be negotiated. Once inside, there is a tiny elevator which can save you from needing to climb the narrow Dutch staircases. We had no problem with the steps, but I could imagine elderly or handicapped guests might struggle with them.

This is a wonderful place to call home for a few days. Highly recommended.

If you are visiting Amsterdam, this is a perfect place. Minutes from the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh and Stedelijk, right next the Dutch Bond Street and Vondelpark, and trams to the centre. It's quiet, comfortable and very friendly now but will soon be even better after current additional rooms and makeovers.

The Holet Fita turned out to be just as described on Trip Advisor. Although it was comfortable and efficient, it gave the feeling of being a family guest. Room was clean, bright, and comfortable. Location was wonderful: short walk to Rembrandt and Van Gogh museums and to trolleys to the central city. The breakfast (with to-order crepes, and a buffet, was a lovely way to start the day. Small staff is appropriate to size of the hotel, and their eagerness to help made up for their small number
