“Amazing Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

This was our first time in Amsterdam and we could not have chosen a better hotel! We would definitely stay here every single time. First of all, the hotel is perfectly located. It's right at the start of all the canals and it is very close to the museums (including Van Gogh). Once you get in, the rooms are beautiful and worth more than what you end up paying. The amenities are wonderful including the "honor bar" when you need a beer or snack late at night. And the free breakfast is better than what you get at any restaurant.

But nothing compares to the warm hospitality and genuine friendliness of the owner of the hotel. We needed to do laundry and he offered to take care of our laundry at no extra charge! Its small things like that which make this hotel great. Its the best kept secret in Amsterdam.

Together with my wife, I stayed 6 days in Fita at the beginning of september.
The hotel is very well placed, very close to the main Amsterdam museums and 30-40 minutes walk from downtown. Also, there is easy acces from the airport by bus 197 that has a stop very close to the hotel. In the surroundings of Leidseplein, which is very close, there are lots of restaurants where you can try all kind of food (argentinian, greek, asian…).
At the check-in, althought we had booked and paid for a spacious room (27 m2) we were given a small one (14 m2). Immediately we asked to be accomodated in type of room we had paid for, but Roel lied to us saying that this is really a spacious room. We had to insist and to tell him that we have already seen pictures of the rooms on internet and we know what we were talking about. Finally, he moved us in the appropriate room which was obvious much larger than the first one. It was not a mistake, it was clearly an attempt to cheat on us, giving us a cheaper room than the one we had paid for. It was not a good beginning in this hotel.
Otherwise, the staff is very kind and helpful and the room is very well kept. The tea and coffee makers in the room were very useful. The WiFi was also good. There is no minibar in the room, but you can help yourself with a beer or a soft drink from a refrigerator placed in the basement.
On the other hand, the breakfast is the weakest aspect of this hotel. It laks variety (even for a 3 stars hotel) and even quantity. Every morning the same thing: yellow cheese, scrambled eggs, bacon, yogurt, a few vegetables and fruits. Additionally, one could order pancakes, which were too sweet for our taste. Moreover, at the buffet we never found more than 7-8 very small and thin slices of cheese, 6-7 very thin slices of tomatos and cucumbers, a few pieces of bacon, 2-3 helpings of eggs. These quantities vanished very fast, and the personnel was not very hurried to add new food.
All in all, it’s not a bad hotel but the staff could improve some things to make it better.

We enjoyed our stay in August. The staff is friendly and helpful; the room was clean and nice sized; beds were comfortable; the pancakes were yummy. The location was great..near the Van Gogh Museum and close to the tram and bus lines.

We stayed here for 4 nights in August 2013. This hotel is very well located in the quiet Museum District. It is approx. 100 yds to the Van Gogh and 10 minutes to the Rijksmuseum. They can sell you tickets to the two museums for a very modest markup that will allow you to bypass some lineups. There are also many other smaller museums within a very short walking distance. The tram to Dam Square and Central Station is also 100 yds away. The hotel is owned by a young man who takes great pride in the special attention this small hotel provides to travellers. Breakfast is included and made to order crepes were delicious. The room is a fair size and the bed is very comfortable. Free in room Wifi is handy. There are great restaurants nearby as well. What makes this hotel special to my mind is that it is family run and the owner takes great pride in providing a great experience. We would not hesitate to rebook here again.

The Fita is a small, family run boutique hotel that provides excellent service. The staff are friendly, conscientious, and always willing to help. Their breakfast is outstanding. This is a simple hotel with small rooms on a lovely street near all the museums. What the hotel lacks in luxury it makes up for in customer service and heart.

I stayed at the Hotel Fita for 3 nights in a wonderful small room with balcony on the first floor in the back. It was very quiet and I loved being able to open the french door and have fresh air. The staff couldn't have been more helpful with directions, suggestions for restaurants and help with taxis and luggage. Also, the location is perfect -- within 1-2 blocks of both the Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum and about 20 minutes from the train station (by taxi). The breakfast room is cheerful and selection of food is ample. Try the pancakes! All in all, I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Roel and his staff provided an exceptional experience for us in Amsterdam. We stayed for six days after disembarking from a cruise ship so wanted a quieter location to unwind.

Roel truly enjoys his profession. He wanted us to experience Amsterdam and the immediate area and enjoy our time spent there and took a personal interest in us and every guest staying at the hotel. His staff shared his enthusiasm. Each day he would have a different restaurant suggestion that took us to places frequented by locals, not tourists. He would ask us our daily plans and then make suggestions to make them a bit more efficient so that we could see more of the area. If necessary, he'd run a map off of the computer with a 'custom' route for us.

The breakfasts were a real treat - including the special Dutch pancakes prepared for each guest. The honour bar downstairs was appreciated after a hot day.

The hotel was spotless. Rooms were generally cleaned while we had breakfast - unless we had an early departure planned for the days activities - and couldn't be better.

The location in the Museum District is actually reasonably close to downtown - we walked it nearly every day and, with no wrong turns, could get to Centraal Station in about 40 minutes - even on those cobblestones!!

We would not hesitate to stay with Roel at Hotel Fita again.
