“Stay with a "Family," not a Corporation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2011

Roel, Martijn, Ria and the Fita team will treat you as one of the family. This family run small boutique Hotel, near the Museums, is ideal for a trip to Amsterdam. It is close to shopping, transportation, restaurants and of course the Museums. My stay could not have been more enjoyable. The breakfast was superb: Hot and welcoming. Don't miss out on the homemade Dutch Pancakes, A must!.

The room was compact, (As you would expect in Amsterdam) but efficiently designed. Everything worked like it was supposed to. The room was clean and comfortable.

I am already trying to look at my schedule to see when I maybe able to return. This time I will bring my wife!

The internet was reliable and easy to access. (Not always a given in Europe)

Ditto everything that's already been said. The most impressive thing is the intimate feel of the hotel; it's like staying as a guest in someone's home (if they're great cooks and offer good local recommendations!). You can walk everywhere or take the tram. It's right across the street from the Van Gogh museum and a 5-minute walk away from the canal boats (the longest walk would be from the Centraal Station which is just 45 minutes walk away). From this lovely home base, were were able to see everything on our list in 3 days: Day 1 (central area-canal boat tour, red light district, shopping, dam square, Leidspein, floating flower market); Day 2 (west area-Jordaan, Anne Frank house, Saturday Nordmarket; Beninjof); Day 3 (east area-Vogelpark, Resistance Museum, Van Gogh Museum). Recommended inexpensive restaurants: Sara's Pancake House (near Ann Frank House), Bombay Inn (Leidspein), Snack house across from the zoo (near Resistance Museum). Also, don't take a taxi from the airport! Just take the train to Centraal Station then the #5 tram to the Van Gogh museum stop (you'll save $35 euros per person). Have a great visit!

I stayed at the hotel with my wife & daughter we arrived directly from the air port we wanted to leave our bags and start exploring while we were being checked in we were given maps explanations in such an easy relaxed manner that by the time we had finished our room was ready . the location was fantastic as we like walking we did every thing on foot would go back in a flash the hotel is a little expensive but hey you pay for such a good location the room we had was certainly big enough for the three of us.

Highly recommend this hotel. We stayed at this hotel with our two young children prior to a baltic cruise. The location is safe, quite, yet close to tram and shopping. There are many play areas near by for the kids. The hotel is non-smoking which reassured us that the kids will not be subjected to pot/tobacco smell. The breakfast is lovely. The owners (Roel and Martijn) are genuinely caring, attentive, made us feel welcome and have a great future ahead of them. We will return!

We felt at home the minute we walked through the door. Roel, the proprietor, & his staff were very friendly & couldn't do enough for us. Good location with good restaurants nearby. We will definitely return.

Agree with all the positives from everyone else. Good location - felt pretty safe - although there don't seem to be any good restaurants nearby, the tram stop is only a few minutes walk. Good breakfasts, lovely clean rooms etc. Beds reasonably comfy. Not quite perfect (!) ...Roel said he's going to do up the rooms but there are a couple of things that could be tweaked now... towels thin and a bit rough & could do with replacing, Nespresso machine in rooms are excellent - but could I suggest allowing 1 capsule per day per person - at the moment you get 4 but have to ask for more or buy them at 4 Euros for 4. However, these things are very minor, and the positives far outweigh the not-quite-positives. The family were all very welcoming and helpful. Definitely good value for money and a very pleasant place to stay.

This family-owned hotel is a jewel. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, the owners/staff went out of their way to ensure our stay was a pleasant one. Our room was spacious and immaculate. The breakfasts were divine. Staff/owners were very knowledgeable and had wonderful maps and lots of information of interest to sightseers. Also, one of the owners used to be a chef, so gave us wonderful restaurant recommendations. The neighborhood is lovely and quiet. The hotel's location is ideal--a block from the Van Gogh museum and steps from a major tram line.
