“Quite Hotel close to the action”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

Hadn't booked this hotel, was offloaded by the hotel I had booked into this one. From the moment I stepped through the door the service was excellent. The staff couldn't have done more to make me feel welcome. The room was small and a little noisy (air conditioning unit, #33) but I always have ear plugs for this eventuality.
Breakfast was very good, a short walk from the museum district and I would stay here again.

Small hotel, tiny rooms, slightly dangerous staircase (typical in Amsterdam) ...but a very pleasant, simple, well run hotel. Walking distance from central Leidseplein (restaurant area). Breakfast is good with a normal no thrill selection. Only poit is internet. There is a wi-fi connection, expensive and not too constant. It would be better to raise the cost of the room of a few Euros and have a fast, reliable and FREE connection. True that there is in the l.obby a connected PC - but at breakfast time it is usually occupied by rude quests that browse for for hours.

Ideal location for visiting Amsterdam. The hotel is only a few minutes walk from shopping, restaurants and bars but is situated in a quiet residential street (ideal for a good night sleep). The staff are helpful, very friendly and breakfast is tasty. The bedrooms are small and basic but are very clean and comfortable and very keenly priced. There is a nice sunny patio area and a little bar in the hotel. I will certainly stay here again when I come back to amsterdam again.

The red bus 197 is ideal for to get to this hotel. It leaves directly outside the airport and stops a couple of minutes walk from the hotel. Takes 30mins and costs €4.

I stayed two nights at the Owl Hotel. The location is excellent -- near a transportation junction, Leidseplein, and very handy to the train station. The room was clean and quiet. Breakfast was okay, and I could eat it outside on the patio. Staff were helpful and friendly. There's a PC for checking email and it has an elevator. Nice neighborhood, with a grocery store a couple blocks away. It had everything I require in a hotel and the price was reasonable.

as other contributors have noted, it is not straightforward to find good-value accommodation in amsterdam. this place is a good compromise: it is not luxurious, but it is centally-located (about 3 mins from leidseplein) and run by really friendly folk, happy to oblige with advice, store baggage, etc.. breakfast is a buffet, perfectly adequate, and served over a 3 hour period. i believe the garden is nice to sit in - unfortunately weather didn't allow this on our visit!
any drawbacks? well you might, like us, be woken in the morning by the horrible squawking of the parakeets in the nearby park...

I was there for 3 days in the beginning of August. Perfect position, very quiet with nice neighbourhood even if very close to the city centre and the Museum district (Van Gogh, Rijiksmuseum, etc..). Also the bus/tram stops to the City centre/Central station or to Schipol airport are round the corner, at 2 min walking distance. The hotel is very nice: very clean rooms and toilets, comfortable, nice staff. Breakfast (very good) is served in the living room or in the small garden, lovely relaxing place. Strongly suggested!!
