“An excellent find!!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

The Hotel Washington has to be an excellent bargain of a purchase. Firstly don't get me wrong - the hotel is over 30 years old and the furnishing and decor do not seem to have been updated once.

There were three of us checking at the hotel and we were lucky to be given the basement floor. This meant that as the floor only had two rooms we had exclusive use of the entire floor. as such it felt more like a two bedroom flat rather than a hotel. The bathroom was communal for the two rooms and was clean. The only downside was the very very very steep staircase. Getting luggage up and down can be quite a task!!!!

In terms of service, I have to give special mention to Claudia who did an outstanding job. Not only did she administer the breakfast but also gave us invaluable tourist advice she also allocated the rooms and was very friendly. The directions she gave from the airport to the hotel were very straight forward.

The location of the hotel is about 35 mins from the airport and 25 mins from Amstel bus station. The 24 hour tram pass was perfect for our needs. "The famous Amsterdam Street market" is only one stop from the hotel (no 16 or 24).

Overall a very good choice for anyone travelling on a budget.

Room Tip: Ask for the basement level if you are more than two people.

Fantastic location near The Museumplein and the Albert Cuyp Market, but with a quiet, neighborhood feel. It was a short walk to the train and the airport bus. I was pleased by the nearby restaurants, especially Burgermeester.

Very small rooms and you can hear your neighbors watching television. The stairs are very steep and, since it's a historic building, there is no elevator.

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights on August 2012 and it was a very good experience. The staff was always very friendly and well spoken in english. When we arrived they informed us that we had been upgraded from a small double room to a superior double room for the same price, because there was one available for that time period.

The room was spacious and the bathroom was nice. The bed was very confortable and there were extra pillows and blankets if we got cold.
The breakfast included different cereals, different kinds of bread, croissants, waffles, milk, coffee, tea, yogurts, ham, cheese, salami, eggs and cake. The breakfast room isn't very big so sometimes it might get busy and hard to get a table, but luckily we never had any problem.

The location is absolutely perfect! Just 2 mins away from tram 16 and 24 to central station and also just a minute's walk to museumplein, Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum, and Albert Heijn supermarket. The quarter is very calm and beautiful.

The only complaint is the stairs, the common flaw that other reviewers stated. Our room was on the 3rd floor and the stairs are really narrow, dutch style. So, get that in mind. It might be hard to climb up with trolleys. But it's not bad enough to ruin your stay! It was more like some morning exercise.

I will surely be staying there on my next trip to Amsterdam. Worth every cent!

This hotel is conveniently close to museums such as the van Gogh-museum and the Rijksmuseum and is well connected to the tram lines. The stairs are narrow and steep, and this might be a problem if your legs are not good. The wifi was not working at top quality in the room, and the breakfast serving tended to be a little chaotic when the breakfast room was full of hungry residents - might be a little sparing on the staff, but the hotel functioned very well for us and the staff was friendly.

It's easy to reach the hotel either from Amsterdam Central Station or directly from Schiphol (with Connexxion bus line - to Museumplein station).
Small cozy hotel, in a quite neighbourhood, very close to Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum, close to the tram station, with direct line to teh Center and Central Station. Other attractions are close and very accessible.
The rooms are comfortable and the hotel staff are very kind.
Breakfast is generous and tasty.

Room Tip: If possible, chose a room at first floor, otherwise it's more difficult to carry your luggage on...
