“Great Service, great location, quiet room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2012

I am spending a few days here in advance of a cruise. Every one of the staff have done their utmost to be helpful, as if they live to serve - a very nice welcome to the city center which begins only blocks away. On quiet street in residential neighborhood, but only a block or so from tram, restaurants, museums. Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum about a 10 minute walk NNW; old town beyond.

Breakfast bar of coffee, tea, juice, fruit, cold cereal, bread, cold cuts, cheese, soft boiled eggs. Eggs scrambled or fried to order.

I am staying in room #8 on the third floor. It is so quiet inside, I can't tell whether there is anyone else staying in the hotel. There is a small balcony. The room is adequate if not spacious. There is worn paint in places - especially in stairwell, but everything is otherwise in good repair and very clean.

Arrived to find the room was made up with a double bed instead of a twin as wanted. They immediately moved in another single to make things right.

Had problems with WiFi which they very quickly attended to.

We had a great time in this hotel. Friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast, nice room, good room service, good location.

I'd especially recommend this hotel to younger couples and those who want to explore the Amsterdam on it's more relaxed side.

our group: 4 young men (25 year old)
my best friend and i were on a euro tour - self planned - and we ended it off in amsterdam, where 2 more of my friends flew in from toronto to meet us.

this hotel's location is pretty good - 4-5 stops away from Dam Square, and the tram stop is a 2 min walk away only.

the hotel is older, finishes are older, stairs are sttttteeeeeppp. but its well kept and clean - so it did not bother me one bit

hotel is run by about 3 people + cleaning staff. they leave you alone, we were loud sometimes, music playing, chatting till 4-5am, and did not have any issues.

staff was very helpful, sold us the pub crawl tickets also,

stayed in Oct 2011, and miss this hotel + the city everyday

We stayed in Hotel Washington for 2 nights and had 2 different rooms - we booked a room with a shared bathroom but we were upgraded to an ensuite for the second night. Our first room was in the basement (down 1 flight of stairs from reception) and was meant to be a twin, but on request they had pushed the beds together to make a 'double'. The room was pretty big and had plenty of spare pillows, blankets, etc, and a couple of chairs. The only thing I would criticise is that there was no mirror! There was one in the bathroom though, and the corridor. It was lovely and warm throughout the hotel. The shared bathroom was big and clean, with a good hot shower. Shower gel/soap were provided and there was a hairdryer, although I took my own so didn't use it. Our second room was room 8, which was up 3 flights of stairs - in hindsight I'm not sure how much of an upgrade it was, and at a guess I would say someone may have requested less stairs, haha. The room was smaller, as was the bathroom but obviously the bonus was that it was ensuite. We also had a little balcony which would be lovely in summer, and a proper double bed.

Plenty of choice at breakfast - warm croissants and bread rolls, cereals, yoghurt, fruit juice, eggs, toast, jam/butter/chocolate spread, ham & cheese, fruit, packaged waffles, etc. The breakfast room (which doubles up as reception during the day) is quite small so you may have to wait a little bit for other people to leave.

Transport links were good, there are about 4 different tram lines near by that will take you pretty much anywhere you need to go. Although we did manage to get off a stop too early on our way there the first time and ended up about half a mile in the wrong direction - luckily the weather was nice and we didn't have many bags!

There are lots of little vouchers/discount cards hanging up in the reception hallway with museum offers on and some other leaflets inside. There is also a vending machine downstairs for any late night cravings...

I booked via hotels.com. Don't forget to take cash to pay, as there was a 4% charge when I used my debit card.
