Antrim, N.Ireland but go to uni near Liverpool
Nov 5, 2008 | Trip type: Friends getaway

There was 15 of us from our halls from uni who went to amsterdam for Halloween. It was really cheap for the hostel so I expected a really bad dirty hostel but it actually wasnt really that bad. There was a bar which was quite cheap, the breakfast was nice and the dinner was really cheap with loads to choose from and they were quite big portions too.
The hostel was in the middle of everything so you could walk to everything easily. The only bad thing about it was that it was very easy to get lost because all the streets look the same.
The rooms were a little cramped because there was 6 of us living in 1 but because we were all friends, we didnt mind and we were only really in the hostel to sleep anyway.
At night the hostel wasnt too noisy and the staff were really friendly. The shower wasnt the best but it done the job and the top bunks were kinda hard to get up and down off but you got used to it.
I would recomend this hostel for people who just want a cheap weekend break.

  • Liked — The food wasnt bad and it was cheap and cheerful and in the middle of everything
  • Disliked — the shower and the top bunks- but they were bearable

DISGUSTING! Bed Bugs!

This hostel was the worst I've ever seen! 4 of us booked a 6 bed room. When we arrived, two guys staying in our room informed us that they had found bed bugs in their beds and were covered in bites. They checked out the next morning. They had obviously complained to the staff because their beds were stripped and no new linens were put on them. When we found bugs in our suitcases, we'd had enough. We complained to the staff, who denied knowing anything about the bugs, and eventually we had to speak to the manager. He told us they were full and there was nothing they could do. He also denied responsibility for the bed bugs, saying that other people bring them in and what is he supposed to do. After some major complaining, he managed to come up with two double rooms. He said he would move their occupants (probably to our bug infested room). Our second set of rooms were dirty. The linens obviously hadn't been changed since he kicked out the first guests. The staff was incredibly rude at check out. Do not stay here! There are better hostels in Amsterdam. Trying the Flying Pig.

In addition to all of this, the breakfast was meager (white bread, a piece of cheese, butter), and the facilities were dismal. Terrible experience with this hostel. Unless you want bed bugs, don't stay here!

After reading some reviews, I was expecting the worst but this place is OK. Couldn’t book anywhere else, so had to go here. Location is OK, as with most places, walking distance to the sights. You get what you pay for, and this place is very basic, but clean, water pressure is OK and noise is fine. Queues for check in went quickly. Beer is OK. Some people obviously had bad experiences, but mine was OK.

No other word to describe this place but the worst place I have ever stayed in nearly 20 years of travelling.

Unclean, unkept, windows only open a small distance if it was in the uk it would have been closed down years ago. The rooms are small with 6 bunks and no ladders to get into the top bunk you are buggered if you have had a heavy night!

Gave the breakfast a miss so can't comment on that , best part was leaving!

This hostel is really super located. Right at the Leidseplein and you can walk to every place you want to pretty quick.
the people at the reception were ok. can't think of anything negative but also we did not talk a lot to them. A lot of young people are staying there. what you need to know therefore is, that this accommodation is not really for older people to travel but rather for students or party people. the walls are pretty thin so you can hear people walking around at night or flushing the toilet but we had a 6 people dorm, the bathroom was ensuite, pretty small but it served its purpose. beds and room were clean, so there is really nothing to complain! the hostel has breakfast from 6-10 am. and happy hour from 5pm-6pm. (drinks and stuff)
we met also really funny and nice people there. it was all in all a wonderful stay there. we will definately come back again! thank you hans brinker!!!hehe

  • Liked — the location, the partypeople, the room, elevator, breakfast, no curfew...
  • Disliked — it was kinda busy, so we sometimes had to wait to get it, but it's alright!
