This hostel is a bit away from the Central Station, the Damrak or the Red Light district, but if you want to stroll in the Vondelpark, visit the famous Museumplein and enjoy the vibe at Leidseplein as we did, this is the place for you too. It's easy to get there from the airport by bus. It's located in a typical dutch house next to the Vondelpark. There are plenty of steps inside the buliding, so be prepared to climb them at least twice a day! Funny signs ("dont forget to breathe!") and wall paintings will help to survive.
We booked five beds in a six bedded dorm - the room was a bit crowded when everyone was inside, but it was ok for a short stay. There were lockers under the beds for our bags, but we had to bring our own padlock, or we could buy from the staff (for 3 euros, I think). The toilets and the showers were on the corridor, and they were surprisingly clean. The hostel provided bed linen, but we had to bring our own towels.
The bar and the smoking room downstairs was allways full of people and was a very nice place to hang around. The staff gave us toast, boiled eggs, peanut butter, jam, juices and coffee as breakfast. I was expecting worse breakfast from a hostel, but it was quite good! There is also a communal kitchen downstairs, where you can make your dinner, and you can eat it in the bar, and drink some relatively cheap beer.
Other important facts: there are safe luggage lockers where you can keep your things after checking out for a little money, and there is a cute cat who lives in the hostel!:)
