“Good Value Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2014

Spent 4 nights here. Although we upgraded our room we heard no complaints from other guests about their rooms. We were perfectly happy with ours. Situation is fantastic if you want to visit galleries. Although there are lots of bars & restaurants close by, if you want the Amsterdam night live stay closer to the centre. We were very happy there as it's in an upmarket residential district for a reasonable cost. Breakfast is absolutely fine. It's adequate and a reasonable choice given that it's a continental breakfast. Went to local Cafe Gruter which had a great choice of beers and food. Minutes away from museums, cafés,bars, supermarkets and public transport. Look out for the wild parrots at the park behind the hotel.

The rooms were small but comfortable and the location fabulous - close to the Rijkmuseum and Van Gogh museum in the museum quarter, the tram stop was just across the road and the area had many very good cafés and restaurants.

Positive: Nice little hotel, excellent location in an fancy residential zone, 5 min walk to the museum's plein, small room but had all the basics.
Negative: you can hear everyone that passes by your door
They charged two euros to print the online check in

Firstly the location of the hotel is great and very easy to find from Centraal Station. It's a 5 minute walk from all the museums and some really pricey designer stores, so perhaps the price is reflective of this. The room we were staying in was clean and had everything we needed. One negative was the fact that you could hear people walking in the corridor during the night, but apart from that I can't fault this hotel.

Positives:

Staff were very helpful.
Breakfast was lovely.
Great location to the main museums.
Located in a really nice area of Amsterdam.
Tram stops outside.
Rooms are a good size and clean.

Negatives:

Very dated, not worth the money you pay. The prices should be halved.
Room had a smell.
You could hear people walking above like they were in the room sometimes.
A long walk from the main part of Amsterdam like Dam Sq unless you spent money on trams.
I did find it annoying that you had to pay 3 euros per bag so they looked after your bags when you checked out and wanted to still view city. The bags just get flung into the breakfast area which isn't safe, however the receptionist did put them under her desk until breakfast finished which I thought was nice.
The TV wasn't the best quality either.

The hotel is practically right at one of Vondelpark's entrances. Easy to get around with Tram #2 stopping less than a hundred meters from the hotel, and many other Tram lines just a block away. The hotel is close to all the nice things: museums, concert hall, shopping, supermarket, etc. The hotel is in a walking distance from the high-end P.C. Hooftstraat, and the intriguing Albert Cuypmarkt.

On the outside the hotel is lovely, rooms are however rather tight, even in European standard. The space where breakfast is served is extremely tight, but it was manageable. Breakfast was fantastic. Staff was wonderful: friendly and helpful.

If you need a centrally located small Hotel, are on a short trip (with little luggage) don't want to spend a fortune and just need a place to sleep, the Atlas Hotel would be the right choice. Our room (2 single beds) was clean, but very small, the bathroom even smaller. You'll find a hair dryer, but p.ex no extra towl to put it on the floor after your shower. The 197 bus stop (connection to the airport, 4 €) is in 5 -10 minutes walking, the tram station of Nr. 2 which goes directly to the station) is 1 minute from the hotel. Breakfast at extra cost.
