“Decent hotel in central Amsterdam”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2013

Firstly the location of the hotel is great and very easy to find from Centraal Station. It's a 5 minute walk from all the museums and some really pricey designer stores, so perhaps the price is reflective of this. The room we were staying in was clean and had everything we needed. One negative was the fact that you could hear people walking in the corridor during the night, but apart from that I can't fault this hotel.

Positives:

Staff were very helpful.
Breakfast was lovely.
Great location to the main museums.
Located in a really nice area of Amsterdam.
Tram stops outside.
Rooms are a good size and clean.

Negatives:

Very dated, not worth the money you pay. The prices should be halved.
Room had a smell.
You could hear people walking above like they were in the room sometimes.
A long walk from the main part of Amsterdam like Dam Sq unless you spent money on trams.
I did find it annoying that you had to pay 3 euros per bag so they looked after your bags when you checked out and wanted to still view city. The bags just get flung into the breakfast area which isn't safe, however the receptionist did put them under her desk until breakfast finished which I thought was nice.
The TV wasn't the best quality either.

The hotel is practically right at one of Vondelpark's entrances. Easy to get around with Tram #2 stopping less than a hundred meters from the hotel, and many other Tram lines just a block away. The hotel is close to all the nice things: museums, concert hall, shopping, supermarket, etc. The hotel is in a walking distance from the high-end P.C. Hooftstraat, and the intriguing Albert Cuypmarkt.

On the outside the hotel is lovely, rooms are however rather tight, even in European standard. The space where breakfast is served is extremely tight, but it was manageable. Breakfast was fantastic. Staff was wonderful: friendly and helpful.

If you need a centrally located small Hotel, are on a short trip (with little luggage) don't want to spend a fortune and just need a place to sleep, the Atlas Hotel would be the right choice. Our room (2 single beds) was clean, but very small, the bathroom even smaller. You'll find a hair dryer, but p.ex no extra towl to put it on the floor after your shower. The 197 bus stop (connection to the airport, 4 €) is in 5 -10 minutes walking, the tram station of Nr. 2 which goes directly to the station) is 1 minute from the hotel. Breakfast at extra cost.

The pluses were the excellent location - ideal for the museums and next door to the Vondelpark. Also the staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean and the water was always hot.
The minuses were the threadbare towels and industrial type soap in the rather cramped bathroom and the rather unpleasant tape stuck to the base of the bath.
The breakfast was fairly standard - the plus was the freshly made coffee and the minus was sliced bread on offer.

Hotel has no frills but on the other hand has all what you would like a good hotel to have - good, decent service and location for easy access. Atlas has all these and this is what made you stay excellent in every manner. We should be back soon in 2 months time to celebrate the New Year in Amsterdam. Glad we found Atlas!
