I can't add much to what most other reviewers have said. The only downfall (hopefully not literally...) is the first thing you find in the hotel is a flight of VERY steep stairs, but every hotel on the street had exactly the same type of stairs because they're all above shops and other businesses. I didn't have a problem with it, it was certainly exercise!! Probably not so good if you have lots of luggage though... or when you're drunk as hell!
The location is unbeatable - a couple of minutes walk from the Dam Square, Anne Frank Museum, Westerkerk, and a tram stop virtually right outside.
The owner was very friendly and helpful, he gave us advice on where to go, which trams to get to where, even provided us with maps, told us which restaurants are good, etc etc. He directed us to Bagels & Beans and a pancake house, both within a minute's walking distance, sadly we didn't have time to experience the pancakes, but the bagel place did easily the best bagels I've ever had, it was a wonderful little place! Definitely recommended.
The place itself was extremely clean, again a few stairs to climb to find our room, but that wasn't a problem, personally. A reasonably small room, but I am never bothered about size when it comes to hotels, after all I'm there to explore the city, not the hotel! There was a sink in the room but no toilet, there are shared toilets and showers between the rooms on the floor, which might be another downfall for some people.
However, it's a very cheap hotel, and when I was trying to decide where to stay, it was very difficult finding somewhere that seemed good and was cheap. I think I definitely made the right choice, it was the happiest medium I could have found, and it's perfect if you want a no-frills hotel with just somewhere to lay your head while you have fun in a brilliant city.
