“Good basic hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

Basic, clean, cheap, quiet and the novelty of staying on a boat! Room was also a good size and the view was great as it was a boat lol. Breakfast wasn't great to be fair, I just had sausages and toast. There is a ferry service to take you to the Central station to be honest it does get a bit annoying having to travel but you see a lot of the buildings along the river. I would rather stay on the other side of the water for handiness. Staff were so helpful with places to visit.

Room Tip: Sea view is lovely

just returnedfrom staying at the botel, great place, quite basic but clean and the breakfasts were good. easy to get to from the station free ferry service just make sure you check times because they change throughout the day. shower was tiny but we are used to cruising, its a cheap ideal place to stay. only complaint my daughter found the bed too hard.

The hotel is very clean and easy to get to via the free ferry service to and from Amsterdam Central Station which takes about 15 minutes. Although the hotel is on a boat, you can hardly ever feel it moving which is good to know if you worry about suffering with sea sickness.
We paid for an en-suite double room. The bed was very comfortable with two separate fluorescent lights above each pillow. There was also a safe and a small flat screen TV but we didn't either of them. The shower was very tiny and initially we had difficulty getting the water to run any more than lukewarm but got there in the end. The room was made up to an impressive standard by the cleaning staff who were also very polite and friendly.
The hotel also allowed us free use of their luggage room when we arrived
(because we arrived at 10am but our check-in wasn't until 2pm) and when we checked out as our flight wasn't until the late evening.
There is also a bar and restaurant on the boat but as we were self-catering, we didn't make use of these facilities so we cannot comment on them.
The room keys consist of smart cards which bear no identifiable markings to the hotel or the room which means that if you lose your key card, you have no chance of somebody finding the card and having access to your room. This also means you don't have a physical key which some smaller budget hotels require you to "hand in" at reception every time you leave the hotel.
Overall, a fantastic budget hotel for anybody who wants to be relatively close to Amsterdam City Center without paying through the nose for it.

My friend and I stayed on the Amstel Botel September 10th to 17th.we will certainly return. It was just superb, and excellent value despite being so relatively inexpensive. We soon learned which free ferry to get from the back of Centraal Station to get there in 15 minutes. The Hotel is warm with perfectly adequate en suite cabins.Maid service is excellent. The rooms are spotlessly clean with towels changed daily. The room had two single beds also changed daily. There was a TV with BBC London and World service but beware the round the clock porn if you have children with you. There was a writing desk..During the day you can get an excellent snack at the bar.We enjoyed a large cheeseburger, chips, salad and coke.Breakfasts were delicious cooked English ie sausages, crispy bacon, beans, tomato, boiled egg in a shell followed by rolls, croissants, jams, and as much coffee or tea or orange juice as you wish. There was a limited choice of breakfast cereal. There was an optional German/Scandinavian cold meat platter. There was toast and cake.It was served 7am to 1030am.We did find one shop in the vicinity with soft drinks, biscuits, crisps etc.As in that shop and elsewhere, you will soon learn it is a myth that all Dutch speak perfect English.I know basic Dutch but took my phrasebook everywhere.Reception catered for all main European languages and could not have been more informative or helpful,.the same being true of the catering staff.Beds were comfy. The hotel was quiet at night though you could hear folk in the next cabin. The Boat only moved a little even when the river was choppy. It was great value!

After reading some of the updates on here about the Botel I decided to book this against my better judgement. I was thinking it would be full of students or travelling teenagers backpacking. I was actually very wrong.
The ferry was so easy to find and the crossing took only 10 minutes each way, leaving and returning every 15 to 20 minutes with lots of room for passengers.
The Botel reception was quick and efficient. There were lots of information packs dotted about and a PC with printer for 20cents a minute should you require. Also free WIFI is fab. This is a boat so obviously you will get movement but it is very minor
The rooms are very compact as you would expect from a boat but are adequate. The bed was hard to sleep on but we got used to it after 1 night. The bathroom was very small however and the shower wasnt great but it did the job. We went out every day at midday and did not return until middnight - what more could you want. The TV shows British shows and the view from our third floor river facing room was good. The only thing I did miss was a hairdryer but I am sure there would be one available should I have asked.
If its the Ritz London you are used to this wont be for you - but if you use Premier or Travel Lodges this would suit you down to the ground.

Room Tip: Get a third floor room facing the river

We stayed here last week. Great staff very friendly and helpful. Easy to get to. Just get the free ferry outside Grand Centraal Station and it's roughly a ten minute ride to NDSM and the Botel is there. Ferries are always on time and frequent. Couple of nice restaurants etc literally outside. Looks like they are building the area up. Nice clean rooms and enjoyed the breakfast. Bar was good too. Definitely worth a visit.

Staff very welcoming, enjoyed our stay very much. Quiet area except for a out door pop concert even then really little noise and no disturbance to our sleep. Had requested a canal side room on booking that's what we got. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
