“staying on a boat...fun enough”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2012

I was in this boat-hotel (botel) couple days ago. Location is interesting, botel is across the Central Station, on the river Ij. It is easy to find in, just 15 minutes driving on the ferry.

Great hotel and good value for money. The breakfast was very good with a lot to choose from and unlimited trips to the buffet so you can fill up before a day exploring. The room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom was basic but good enough for a few days. Getting the ferry to and from the hotel was always a bit of an adventure especially at night after a few drinks. The staff were incredibly helpful and offered us advice on how to get back to the airport and what was best to see in the city.

The only downside is that because it is a boat it moves!! And I get incredibly sea sick. Its okay at night when your sleeping but during the day when the ferries are going it moves around quite a bit.

Overall a good value and comfortable hotel but remember to bring your sea legs!

Located on the otherside of the river , it takes 15-20mins to reach teh Botel from Centraal

Easy to find your way to and back to after a night out; just head for Centraal Station and there it is at the end of the station.
The room was small with 2 single beds but big enough for sleeping and getting ready in. Spotlessly clean and fresh towels daily. Breakfast was ok
overall - good choice for a no frills short stay but wouldn't recommend for a long holiday or a special romantic break

Great novelty hotel, transport links to the centre were really good and getting to central station for free everyday was better than paying for the tram. The breakfast was ok but I mainly stuck to the bread and meats.
Only problem was sometimes being so far out, my partner was ill and it was hard to get to a chemist and it was over an hour round trip once I did. Also really small bathroom.
I would stay again though and recommend to others.

First to say: the hotel-staff is very nice, the rooms are clean. BUT: the boat is pretty far away from downtown. The ferry runs every half an hour (it´s for free) but you can´t be spontaneous at all. And if you miss the ferry you have to wait another half an hour. The breakfast isn´t good at all. The coffee tastes bad and the quality of the food isn´t very good. For people that get seasick easily shouldn´t go on that boat. It always shakes a little bit. The bathroom is very, very small! And the walls are very thin you hear every sound-don´t forget the earplug.
If you like boats and if you want to be further away from downtown the Amstel Botel is a alternative. Please notice: We didn´t choose the hotel on purpose we were booked on the Amstel Botel because our hotel, which was downtown, was overbooked.

This is a basic, clean, practical hotel that might not be walking distance to city center but is still a convenient option.

LOCATION: The Amstel Botel is 10 minutes across the river from Amsterdam at the NDSM wharf, but the ferry runs frequently (about 15 minutes at peak times) from the river side ("back") of Amsterdam Centraal, so one can conveniently exit the station with luggage and all and be at the ferry in a couple of minutes. The ferry is a good way to see some of the city's architecture, and have some breathing space after a hectic day of sightseeing or business.

ROOMS: The rooms are small but with normal sized, reasonably comfortable beds and their own bathroom. The bathroom is tiny, and one can almost shower and brush one's teeth while sitting on the loo. Having walls to lean on might not be such a bad idea though when the slight sway of the boat on the water puts you a little bit off balance.

BREAKFAST: The breakfast selection is decent, and this was one of the places that had some salad vegetables available, so plus points for that aside from the standard breads, cheeses, cold cuts, bacon and eggs.

INTERNET AND TV/MOVIES: Wi-Fi internet was free but horribly slow, so do your surfing elsewhere. As for channel surfing, the TV reception was horrible and I couldn't find CNN, but Russia Today (English) was available.

WARNING FOR THOSE WITH KIDS: While kids might enjoy the novelty of staying on a boat, and they probably will enjoy the Pancake Boat docked next door, you might be careful about their TV watching- "adult" channels are accessible by regular channel surfing. (And you might also want to be careful that nobody drops into the water by accident.)

Room Tip: Street-facing rooms might sometimes be noisy.
