“Good place to stay in amsterdam”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2014

Very good location with train station as soon as you step out of the hotel with frequent trains to Central station. Clean and good sized rooms and friendly staff. A decent breakfast and close to airport. Will definitely stay here again.

At first sight it doesn' look so good, because it is a little difficult to find but after that the hotel is super, it is very clean, breakfast it is good, great value for your money, even it is not right downtown, public transportacion which is right outside the door with direct bus to downtown and by train and bus your choise you reach the Airport.
We were very happy with this choice. If we come back again we will stay again in this hotel not doubt.

At first sight, this hotel may not seem the best place to stay if exploring the city but don't let first impressions deceive you. The public transport is available right outside the door with a direct bus into the city running every 10 minutes. Also situated at the train station, the train links with the airport are outstanding. The quietness of the hotel is amazing considering the train station location, we were not disturbed by train noise at all during our 3 night stay. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming and the rooms are comfy and clean. The only downside is the lack of food available in the evenings but this is to be expected in a Holiday Inn Express and if you ask at reception they would be happy to recommend options to eat out.

HI Express isn't our preferred chain when traveling domestically but this Amsterdam property was a welcome site when we arrived from the U.K.
The hotel is clean and bright, located literally next door to a major transit station. The rooms are exactly what one would find in a domestic location (except for no separate closet). So is the breakfast area (except, curiously in a land where waffles are loved, there was no waffle maker).
All employees we encountered were courteous and helpful and spoke excellent English (virtually everyone in the Netherlands speaks excellent English).
The only drawback is that it's located in an office building area, and there's very little to walk to, including only one nearby restaurant. But one only has to take a No. 48 bus about 15 minutes to central Amsterdam.
Strongly recommended.

Room Tip: Odd numbered rooms are quieter.

Outside the centre of Amsterdam but only minutes by train from Schipol airport and very close to buses, trams and the metro (as well as the trains) so getting into the centre is very quick and easy. Perfect as a base for a few days sightseeing the hotel is clean, comfortable, has everything you need and the staff are friendly and helpful. The only downside is the lack of places close by to eat. They do an excellent breakfast but no other meals and the Hermes restaurant on the doorstep - which is fine but not great - is not open at weekends. Get an iAmsterdam card and you can travel around as much as you like though. I spent four nights here and would be very happy to go back.

Dear Lyn C,

Thank you so much for staying with us. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay. As the Sloterdijk area is constantly improving and expanding, we hope to add a new restaurant to the area soon, so we can offer you a wider variety of food options. Fortunately we receive very good comments from our guests from the existing restaurants.

Thank you for your valuable comments and we hope to welcome you back soon.

On the whole a good hotel, it is in a very uninspired concrete jungle part of town in the middle of a large train station so has very good transport connections with trains running to central amsterdam freqeuntly for about 5€ return and running until about 0130am, alternatively you can catch a tram to the Vondelpark area, trams are about 2,80€ for an hours pass - there is also a nightbus service but we did not use this. It also has very good airport connections.

The hotel is not realistically walking distance to the centre so is best for people who are not intending very late nights.

Hotel itself is modern with small but well kept rooms, however myself and friend almost had to share a double as although their website tells you to ask on arrival they wanted to give us a double - would suggest explicitly checking you have a twin as part of your reservation if this is a concern for you.

Hotel served a good continental breakfast as part of the deal each morning for free which was a very good setup.

Don't forget the city tax also when staying in Amsterdam - for our stay it was over 25€ but I believe where you stay has no effect on it - just know you will have to pay it.

Apart from the problem with the double v twin bed arrangement, the only other problem with experienced was housekeeping trying to access our room each morning at 0930 without knocking - the door lock stopped them but it was always a rude way to wake up.

All in all a good hotel, not ideal for late nighters but fine for everyone else, not in the best area and no eating locally but transport to the areas which provide these is very good. Watch out for the room selection if you need a twin and make sure you keep the door lock across.

Room Tip: If booking a twin make sure you confirm this as part of the booking. Ask for a room on the Amsterda...

Dear JonBclarke,

Thank you very much for your time to write this review. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. We urgently discussed your comments about the 'wake up service' from Housekeeping with the whole team and they are well aware that this is not how we usually work. Please accept my sincere apologies for this inconvenience.

Once again thank you for your comments and we hope to welcome you back in the near future.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2014

I stayed there with my family in April 2014 for 5 nights on our first visit to Amsterdam. From Schiphol Airport, we took NS train towards Amsterdam Centraal,

Sloterdijk Station is the second stop (Schiphol, Laylelaan and Sloterdijk) and takes around 10 minutes. At Sloterdijk, go to Stationhall (main floor of the station),

take the bus/tram exit for the hotel which is on the left if facing the main door of the Sloterdijk station. The extrance was from the back of the hotel, probably

because of the major development works near the station. Take the lift to reception which is at Level 1. We were greeted very well by the reception staff who spoke

perfect English and also told us about the transport links from the hotel and issued as a map of Amsterdam. I asked if I can get extra entry fob (key for the room) for

my wife which was issued to me immediately. The room was on the 7th floor with the view of the road and wind farms. Excellent room and a king size double bed was what

we got. Nice toilet with good shower. Room also has tea making facility, a single sofa and LCD telly with BBC. Being next to the station and development work going in

the area, we did hear some noises but it wasn't loud and didn't bother us at all.

I also asked for a child cot which was present in the room but it won't lock properly from one side and that there was no pillow or duvet for child. I asked the

reception to check the cot and if they can provide pillow and blanket. I was told that they will check the cot and provide the pillow and blanket but nothing was

checked or provided until I asked again the second day. On that occassion, I was given a pillow for the child but they said that they don't have child sized duvet. I

asked if I can have several large towel which can be used as blanket which was then provided. I had to ask the reception again the following day to check the cot as it

doesn't lock from one end and finally it got replaced.

Other issue I had was the cleaning service in the room. Although the hotel was very clean and tidy, the room cleaning service was not great. They won't wash the tea

cups, not even replenish the tea/coffee bags. On several occassion they didn't even pick up the pillow that was dropped on the floor. One day, carpet in our room

wasn't even vaccummed as the rubbish was still on the floor.

Hotel provides breakfast from 6:30 to 10:30 which IMHO was abundent which included cereals, croissants, buns, meats, jam, cheese, butter, fruits, bread, juices, tea,

coffee and milk. Although I think there should be a little more variety for vegeterians such as Hash Browns, Baked Beans, etc. The hotel has large and bright breakfast

room, although it might ocassionally get busy but the staff was excellent and always present to help. There is a koisk inside the hotel which had microwave food, which

you can buy for around Euro 4.50 (which is Halal too).

The hotel has free wifi which provides good internet connectivity. They had issue with the internet on one day but that was identified quickly and it was fixed within

hours. The best thing is that they provide KPN internet at hotel, which works across Netherlands as you get KPN wifi almost everywhere in Netherlands (I used it in

Hague as well). So no extra internet cost :)

Hotel is very well located with excellent transport link, not far at all from the city centre and bus 48 can take you there in 20 mins or Amsterdam Centraal is the

next station if using train. Tram 12 take you to the other side on the city towards Vodelpark.

Pros:
- Excellent location
- Good transport
- Overall clean
- Nice staff
- Good size bed

Improvements Required:
- Better bedding should be provided for children
- Most importantly, room cleaning service needs to be improved

Overall, we had a good stay and I would definitely recommend it to someone visiting Amsterdam for the first time.

Room Tip: Higher floor room for good view.
