“Budget hotel at a hefty price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013 via mobile

They claim they are not affiliated with Easy Jet but with the orange logo and price for every little thing, you could have fooled me.

Very small rooms, wooden floors with sparse furnishing (literally, there is just a bed, a shower and a toilet and sink - no cupboard, no shelf), and squeezing as much out if every guest as they can. €5/night for TV (though having said that, fairly good selection of English channels for a European hotel), €7.50/nt for wifi, €1 for any extra towels required, €15 if you would like your room cleaned (they won't even come and empty your bin for free), and staff who have some knowledge about the city but not excellent (I was assured I would have plenty of time to get to the airport in one hour via regular trains on a Sunday, but the trains were few and far between, so a hurried taxi ride it was!).

I understand you can sometimes bag this hotel for €50/night, which I think is more what it's worth. I paid €100/nt.

On the plus side, the bed was comfy, and the location in De Piip was excellent (easy walk into town, easy walk/cycle down to the Rai Convention centre, nice nearby bars and restaurants in Museumplein, Heinekenplain, Leidsplan etc).

Probably wont stay there again though...

Dear Kate W,

Thank you taking the time to express your feeling about your stay at easyHotel Amsterdam!

We apologise that you were disappointed with our policy charging for additional services. Many of our guests find such additional services during their stay unnecessary. Therefore in order to keep our prices as low as possible, we only offer services during your stay on demand and for a small additional fee. We try to make this as clear as possible upon making a reservation. This policy has proved very popular in hotels and with budget airlines such as easyJet as well. This certainly does not detract from any inconvenience caused.

You stayed on one of the busiest days/periods in Amstedam and therefore all the prices are higher then normal.

We really hope to welcome your back soon when travel brings you back to Amsterdam!

Kind regards,

Danny van Spall

The hotel is everything it says, rooms simple , clean and no frills. However when you add up what you need, tram to and from the hotel (the walk takes 30/40 mins) 7.50 Euros, Coffee at hotel (only half a cup of something vaguely similar to coffee) 1.50 vending machine ranged form 1.75 for water to 3.00 for anything else. this is quite a pricey room per night. we stayed in the small double with "internal window" which looked onto the corridor.. so our blind stayed shut. Our room was also really noisy :( the aircon had to be switched off at night by removing card from door, hence no lights at all when needed to find the loo. When it was switched off we heard the buzz of a full floor of aircons! Plus points..clean, nothing was broken, could recommend to a business traveller who just wanted to sleep and leave early in the morning.

Dear krissydabird,

Thank you for your feedback about your stay at easyHotel Amsterdam.

The corridor where your window looked is an fire escape exit where no people are allowed. So privacy guaranteed.

We're sorry for the inconvenience caused due to the airconditioner!! We're gonne change the setup in the near future to switch of the airco and maintain the power in the room!

Thank you for your stay and we like to welcome you soon again!!

At 50euro a night, you cant come here and expect luxury. I do expect the room to be clean, which it was, just about. However, our sheets were stained - they were definately fresh sheets but were stained with purple blotches.
It is clear how easyhotel make their money - through extras which would be basics elsewhere. We didnt avail of wifi or tv as it was just too expensive for all the time we would be using it. We werent in Amsterdam to watch tv afterall! However; i did need a hairdryer which cost me 2euro and we needed a plug adapter which was 10euro.
It is quite far from Dam Sq and central Amsterdam but if anything; this was a plus. We saw some of Amsterdam off the tourist trail and ate in more traditional restaurants.
I would definately recommend De Pijp area as a place to stay. As for the easyhotel, if you just want somewhere to sleep and shower, its perfect.

Dear torneyh,

Thank you for your feedback at Tripadvisor!

We think you've hit the spot, where we stand for, clean, cheap and safe. Because you pay for the extra's only you can make your stay as cheap as you want. Not everybody wants the same and therefore we can offer cheap rooms!

All the basic amenities... The only problem is there is very little privacy when going to the toilet...something the missus wasn't too fond of (I did my best). Nice area, quiet and chilled. Near tram stations that go into the centre etc. Near some major museums and attractions.

A nice hotel, but don't expect too much, as every easyhotel in the world. A bit far from the city center, but very close to tram station. It has supermarket, restaurants, subway, Mc and pharmacy nearby and, with some of them, you get discount by being hosted in the easyhotel. If you stay more than 7 days, you get a free cleaning, otherwise you have to pay to get you room cleaned. You have to pay also for the TV and wifi and if you're staying more than 2-3 days it worth buying the 7-day package. The room is very small, but enough for 2 person who has some organization skill. It's not allowed to smoke in any area of the hotel, so if it's winter be prepared to face the cold, since I don't smoke, it wasn't a problem for me. No breakfast, but they have machines in the reception where you can buy drinks, some snacks and even socks.

As said before its a tiny room. We had a lot of luggage so space was tight but it was clean and tidy and we slept well (though the air flow system is a little noisy). The staff are very helpful and let us put our copious baggage downstairs (for four euros). The big complaint was that the shower was so underpowered it was barely worth calling it a shower...more of a light drizzle.
