My husband and I went to Amsterdam and stayed at the Swissôtel for two nights.
This was two free nights with breakfast included. All we had to cover was the cost of the flights from London. I got these flights pretty cheap from KLM @ £35 each way travelling Monday and returning Wednesday from London city airport on one of those little Fokker planes that holds 50 people or so. The reason the hotel was free was because I had complained about the previous room we had stayed in back in march of this year as it was really rough. The manager kindly offered us this break to make amends. On arrival the reception were really friendly and welcoming. Our room was exceptionally spotlessly clean and smelled fresh. There was a beautiful potted pink orchid plant and a bowl of fruit and complimentary large Toblerone chocolate and two bottles of spring water and a pleasant note from the hotel manager and a voice mail message welcoming us both back. The room had a wonderful view overlooking the church behind the palace on Dam square. The bathroom was fantastic as there was a bath and separate shower which was nice as it saved time when we were getting ready to go out for the evening. The toiletries and complimentary tray was nice (hair shampoo, hair conditioner, moisturizing, lotion bath gel and shaving cream, razor, toothbrush and paste, body wash mitt, comb sewing kit , shower cap, nail file, soaps etc). There were also two bathrobes and slippers and an ironing board and iron along with a shoe horn and plenty of coat hangers. There is also a 24 hour gym on the first floor of the hotel that is well equipped with a great view of Dam Square (the gym is free to hotel guests). I would also like to recommend a great restaurant two doors away from Swissôtel called De Roode Leeuw Damrak 93-94. The food in this place is absolutely gorgeous, especially the desserts. It’s a very upmarket restaurant brasserie with very friendly waiters who will take care of everything whilst still remaining laid back by not being overly attentive. The Swissôtel have a restaurant on the ground floor where we had breakfast which you have a huge choice of fried food or continental. The scrambled eggs were very nice. We were really satisfied with the level of care taken to provide us with a good happy stay at the Swissôtel. The beds are so comfy you will sleep like a log. My husband and I can’t wait to return to the Swissôtel at Christmas time and we thoroughly recommend it to all people wanting a decent clean hotel with good service and staff/Managers that genuinely care that your stay is a pleasant one.
