Booked this Hotel for us and some friends, for our first visit to Amsterdam, after looking at consumer reviews on this web site.

Our room was not as large as I envisaged but was very clean and very comfortable. Fully equipped. Bathroom was very nice although we did struggle to get the shower set up so we didn't flood the bathroom!!

On arrival, at check in staff heard mention that it was one of our freinds birthdays. A bottle of wine was sent to their room with the Hotels compliments. A very nice touch.

Location of the Swissotel is superb. A gentle walk from Central Station and right on Dam Square so everywhere was easy to get to. Good security with key card required to access lifts and stairs to bedrooms.

Would definitely book here again if returning to Amsterdam.

We went to Amsterdam for the weekend and booked at the last minute. We had some difficulty finding a room where I'd stayed before (near Vondel Park), but found a "spring special" on the Swissotel - 270 euros/night for a standard room. It was very standard - two twin beds with the risky gap. Room 228 - staring at the brick wall. Carpet had lots of stains - due for a refresh. We didn't have any espresso machine, but the room did come with an electric kettle and Nescafe. Decent pillows, good water pressure, relatively quiet. Not bad, but not worth north of $300 after taxes and fees.

You are right off the Dam at this hotel. All the major tram lines are right out the front door, and it's an easy hop to get to the train station. Lovely service. I liked the hotel restaurant - not your usual fare. Quick tram ride to the Van Gogh museum & Rijksmuseum. Oh - while you are that museums, at one end of the park there is a really nice subterranean grocery store. Stock up on snacks and pop as the mini bar is a rip off (as they are at all hotels). There is a mini-mart a couple doors down from the hotel, but it's more expensive and there's less selection.

The hotel is clean and tidy, with Smoking and Non-Smoking floors.

The standard rooms are pretty .... standard. Not much room beyond the bed and closets, and the bathroom is the same. The espresso machine was a nice addition to the room.

The bed was a little ropey too - it was a large bed made out of two matresses, with a clear diving gouge down the middle - a little soft for my liking too - and the pillows are an odd shape, square.

The Hotels location is fantastic, very central. There is a supermarket about 1 min away (out of the hotel and left) and a Mc Donalds next door. There are alot of resurants in the area too (at least 140 within a 1 mile radius from the hotel).

Don't get a cab from the airport it's not particularly accesible from the road and has no parking. Get a train from central Station and it's about a 10 Minute walk.

i really enjoyed my stay at the swissotel amsterdam. it is a very nice hotel with great service and friendly staff. Rooms-the rooms very nice and modernly designed. the bed was huge and very comfortable, and when we requested a rollaway bed, the staff gladly complied. the room has a variety of tourist magazines that are very helpful. we stayed in a junior suite and it was spacious and had good wood floors. one problem was that, late at night you can hear a lot of traffic through the window that might keep you up at night. Bathrooms-the set up of the bathrooms are quite odd. there is no privacy, but merely a glass door that leads from the room. this is quite inconvenient if you want privacy while bathing or showering. luckily, there is a separate door for the bathroom. there is a huge shower and a separate sunken bath, both very nice. there are adequate supplies such as nail filers and special vanity sets for your beauty needs. it is a large bathroom.
Staff and Service-staff are very kind and will help you with directions or whatever you may need. Service is very good, and every morning you get a free nice buffet breakfast at their posh restaurant. For lunch and dinner although, their menus are quite unvarietized, i would suggest dining out. Cleanliness-this hotel is very clean!!! I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL!!
