“Modern hotel good for brief stay or business trip.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

We stayed in this hotel several times with familyor friends and each time it was good expirience. The rooms are small but well equipped, the staff is friendly and location is perfect. It is real good four star place that does not have any touch of romance or luxury but provides good value for money.

Excellent business hotel for a short stay - centrally located with small but very clean and well-appointed rooms. Friendly and very helpful staff who charged my 'phone overnight and then placed it in the safe until I could collect it in the morning.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

The hotel has a central location, just a few steps to the side of Dam Square. It is an easy walk from the central train station. As we had a very early arrival and the official check-in time is 15:00, we retained the booking our room (224, I believe) for the night before (missed due to flight misconnections) and all was as expected.

The room itself, a classic twin, was quite small and with a bit more or larger sized furniture in it than was necessary given the size of the room. The wide twin beds were comfortable, and there was a night table, writing desk and chair, small coffee table and two chairs. There was a flat screen TV, in-room safe and nice touches included complimentary drinking water and the Nespresso machine.

The bathroom, including a bath, was spacious and included nice amenities and a hair dryer, the door and doorframe had been noticeably damaged and this detracted from the overall appearance of the room.

On the return visit at the end of our trip, we were in room 139, which is tucked around the back and up 1/2 staircase. The room again seemed a little crowded because of the type of standard furniture and the bathroom seemed smaller than in our previous room. Both rooms were very quiet.

It is slightly annoying that in this day and age, there is no complimentary wifi in the room. However, the business centre on the first floor has three computers and a printer for guest use, and refreshments are provided in the room, which is a nice touch.

Some of the reception staff (2 out of 4 that we were in contact with) were friendly, efficient and provided good sightseeing and dining recommendations. We were remembered by two members of staff on our return visit.

On our last morning, we had the hotel's buffet breakfast (entrance is from the hotel but not part of the hotel). It was a rather ordinary offering of cereals, yogurts, cut fresh fruit, cold cuts, cheeses, breads and pastries of average quality, juices and coffee (you make yourself selecting the appropriate button on the machine) for I believe 14,50 Euros which is quite expensive for the quality of the buffet.

This hotel is recommended if you want a central location and for its welcoming staff.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review.
I am happy to hear you enjoyed your stay at Swissôtel Amsterdam, although you found your room quite small. Since we are located in a monumental building, our rooms can vary in size.
I am sorry to learn the door in your first room was damaged, we will communicate this with our Technical Department and will solve this as soon as possible.
Our internet policy is always subject to evaluation. I will definitely bring the issue up again with the people concerned. Thank you very much for pointing it out. I am happy to hear you enjoyed the complimentary internet access in our business centre.
We hope can welcome you back to our hotel again in the near future.

Located just off Dam Square. Little things like the expresso maker, and the french windows overlooking the square made this a great stay. Some may find the noise outside a bit much, but it adds to the ambiance, and does die down in the late night and early mornings.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in front, over looking the street, with a view of the square.

Let me add to the previous reviews warning about staying here.
Despite speaking with reception not 90 minutes earlier to confirm we would be arriving at about 7 pm (which we did) we were greeted with "we have cancelled your booking, the hotel is full".
Thank you so much!!!
So here we are standing outside in the rain trying to figure where to go now given that every hotel around is full.
Thanks for nothing Swissotel- I have stayed in your very nice hotel in Singapore but would never ever recommend anyone to book in Amsterdam. In fact I will never stay at one of your chain's hotels again.
By all accounts, perhaps it was a blessing in disguise and we were saved from a woeful experience given that the rooms sound like a dump.

Let me start by offering my sincere apologies for the fact that we were not able to accommodate you upon arrival. We do our utmost to avoid being overbooked by all means. If the situation does occur we take full responsibility in finding the most convenient alternative accommodation possible.

I spoke to my Front Office team and as you mentioned in your review you called our hotel prior to your arrival in order to confirm you were on your way. During this conversation my colleague informed you that the booking was not guaranteed since the credit card was invalid. As stated on the website of the online travel agent where you booked the room, we are entitled to cancel non-guaranteed bookings as from 6PM on the day of arrival. My colleague explained the situation and mentioned you were most welcome to come to the hotel and we offered help with finding an alternate accommodation for you and your wife, which you agreed upon.

At time of your arrival my Duty Manager explained the situation and you accepted his help in order to find a suitable hotel. We arranged a comparable hotel at the same unique location including a complimentary room upgrade and discount during your stay. We understood from the hotel that you and your wife enjoyed your stay.

I want to apologize again for the inconvenience for which I feel genuinely sorry. However, we do have a strict policy when it comes to non-guaranteed reservations and as confirmed via the online travel agency, we are entitled to cancel these bookings after 6PM on the day of arrival.

Just a few steps from the big central square, it is right on several trolley lines to museums
Room was small but very adequate, breakfast was wholesome staff was most helpful. Overlooked dept store windows but the fair rate made it a very good value.

we forgot to bring a travel guide luckily you have a business room where you have FREE access to internet and printer. the room s are clean the staff is friendly and helpfull. its a nice hotel for a city tripn with many details such as a coffe machine in the room an ion etc. however they fo not have a proper lobby if you want to have a drink with friends before you go to your room after an intense day of sighseeing. the hotel is located just opposite the most expensive nh hotel krasnaposly so loactionwise its exactly the same .
the only thing if you take a car to travel to amsterdam DO NOT ENTER THE CIY TO LOOK FOR THE HOTEL . THERE IS NO WHERE TO DROP OFF YOUR LUGGAGE OR PARK THE CAR NEARBY ! AND THE CAR PARKINGS ARE CRAZILY EXPENSIVE UP TO 60 EUROS PER DAY!

Room Tip: MAKE SURE TO ASK FOR A ROOM TOWARDS THE REAR (BACK) SIDE its quieter th e hotel is located just in...

Thank you for your great review and tips. Parking in the centre of Amsterdam is indeed a challenge nowadays. If you decide to stay with us again in the near future we can offer you our Valet Park service: Smart Parking. This is the most convenient way to park your car. It costs EUR 21 per twenty-four hours and saves you a lot of trouble finding a parking space. A onetime extra charge of EUR 10 applies for bringing the car to the guarded garage in the north of Amsterdam upon arrival. Generally the car stays there during the length of your stay.

The Lobby area will be renovated this January and I do hope you will have the opportunity to return to our hotel to see the result yourself.
