Spent several nights here based on the largely positive reviews.

Pros: quiet but central location just a short walk from the train station and tram stops, comfortable beds with warm soft comforters, above average continental breakfast (with a pleasant array of cheese and cold cuts in addition to the usual toast and juice), very helpful front desk who are eager to offer tips about Amsterdam and eagerly look up info for you on the Internet. Well heated rooms. No street noise at all in back rooms (and I bet the canal side is fairly quiet too as there is hardly any traffic). There is a small elevator.

Cons: room (a double) is indeed quite small, and no view in off street rooms (although it is quiet accordingly). our bathroom was so-so in terms of cleanliness (the shower is one end of the bathroom and is not separated by a tub or partition, so water can get all over the floor; there was a musty odor to the shower and curtain). decor is charmless. Smoke (both kinds) and chatter from other rooms often drifted into our room, which happened late at night given a high number of young late night revelers the week we were there (or maybe every week in Amsterdam). Somewhat pricey for what the facilities were, but I guess most central Amsterdam hotels tend to be pricey.

Overall an adequate experience, but somewhat disappointing for the money. The helpful staff help make up for the underwhelming facilities.

  • Liked — helpful advice from front desk
  • Disliked — smoke and noise from other rooms
  • Tips/Secrets: — request a canal side room as it is likely still quiet

I booked this hotel for a short break in January for myself and my boyfriend. I was a little worried about the size of the rooms after reading past reviews but I was not disappointed, we stayed in room number 14 which after looking at the map on the door is the biggest in the hotel. The room had lovely views out onto the canal and was big enough for the two of us.

The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, providing us with all the information about the local attractions that we needed. The hotel is situated in a good position, close to everyhing but far enough from the noise of the main centre of town.

Over all I would definitely be recommending this hotel to my friends, we had a lovely stay in Amsterdam and will most certainly be staying here again.

Booked our stay at the Singel hotel through the easytobook.com website because of their cheap rates. We had read the reviews here on trip advisor before we booked and weren't dissapointed.

The hotel is in a great location just down the singel canal and about a 5 minute walk from the Central station.

The hotel was clean and tidy, the room was also nice and clean. Some reviews have said the rooms are a litlle small, which they are, but they are more than comfortable and we didn't feel cramped. The bed was extremely comfortable! possibly the best few nights sleep i have ever had! The location is very quiet t night and we didnt get disturbed by noise at all and our room was looking on to the canal.
The only bad point was the bathroom was very small, but atleast the shower was good, and it was clean.

Someone wrote a review saying that they wouldn't go again as there is a couple of brothels nearby. Yes there is a few brothels further down Singel Canal (about 3-4 min walk away from the hotel) but they are nothing compared to the actual red light district and brothels etc are regulated by the police in amsterdam so you wont have any trouble, also if you are like me and my girlfriend and dont like the idea of the brothels etc.. just walk a bit faster when you are near them!

The hotel whipped up a decent breakfast, 'buffet' style, with lots of cheese, ham, bread, jam, cereal etc... and you can just help yourself to as much as you like.

I would definately stay at this hotel again if i ever went back to amsterdam.
Book now!

  • Liked — The room was very comfortable
  • Disliked — Tiny bathroom
  • Tips/Secrets: — If you book a hotel, keep checking if the price has gone down as almost all amsterdam hotels have a 48hour cancellation policy, so if the price goes down just cancel the booking and re-book at the cheaper rate!

Stayed at the Singel for 2 nights for a football trip, the place is easy to find, in a good location, near the station,on the Singel canal, next to a church.

Room was comfy and very well heated if a little basic, breakfast was good a variety of cereals, breads, cheese, meats, etc, boiled eggs, juice, tea&coffee

All in all a pleasant enough place for a couple of days, mind you we didnt get to bed until 3:30 the first night and well after 4 on the second.

The guy I roomed with works in pest control and was a stickler about vermin & bed bugs etc before we went and he had no complaints unlike some of our other guys who stayed elsewhere in the city so read into that what you will

  • Liked — price/location
  • Disliked — not much view from the rooms on the side of the hotel

Stayed here for a couple of nights. Did ask in advance for a room with canal views but when we arrived was told they were fully booked. Didn't want a room at the back of the hotel due to past reviews.
We were given the 'attic' room, 40. It was ok, had a side view of the canal, a bit small but it was clean and had hot water so we were happy.
Hotel is in a good location near station and shops etc..
Staff were friendly and very helpful.
Breakfast was normal continental things including hot boiled eggs, enough to get you through til lunch.
Nice place for lunch is a cafe called Oude Wester, on corner very close to Anne Franks house. Very pretty female waitress, Australian, well worth a visit.
Would stay again.

  • Liked — Clean, location, staff
  • Disliked — Nothing comes to mind
  • Tips/Secrets: — Try to get attic or front facing room
