Had a very early flight so booked into an airport hotel. I picked the cheapest I could as I don't tend to be fussy when I have to be out by 6am.
The location is not pleasant, hard by an expressway, a drive-in MacDonalds and a half built industrial estate but it's five minutes by airport shuttle. The shuttle itself only seats about 12, and visits the Schiphol crew centre first, so full of pilots and cabin crew. However, the driver radioed for another bus, and sure enough one came in about 5 minutes, so I ended up waiting a lot less then a colleague booked in at the Radisson!
Counter staff were efficient and friendly. The room was modern, darkwood floors and nice decor, very comfortable extra long bed (handy as I'm 6'5") - lovely bathroom and quiet at night. It took ages to find it in a maze of corridors and i'm not sure if I'd want a vacation there, but for under 75 euros, I was well pleased.
Nice bar area where I had a nightcap, bar staff friendly as were other travellers.
Didn't pay the extra for breakfast, made do with instant coffee and there are many good breakfast options at the airport.
The hotel shuttle will pick you up from the airport if you ring on the free phone at the bus stand between midnight and 6am - this is handy if you want to stay cheaply in Amsterdam - the trains from Centraalstation run all night.
I'm planning a cheap getaway at the NH Schiphol in the near future rather than deal with dirty budget hotels again.
