After alot of research of hotels in Amsterdam we plumped for this one as the price included all local taxes, breakfast and if you paid cash on arrival got a further 6% discount - I found it very hard to find anything this cheap (unless you start looking at hostels and sharing bathrooms etc) in central Amsterdam so we took a gamble....
Well, we were very pleasantly surprised.
We walked with a couple of overnight bags from Central Station and found it very easily.
As someone else mentioned - I was prepared for the stairs but was still shocked.. but its SOOOO Amsterdam and to be fair they look daunting but while they are steep they aren't too bad.
Check in was delightful.. the woman behind reception offered to get someone to take our bags from the bottom of the stairs to our room and offered us a can of ice cold diet coke, 7up etc comlimentary - while they took our bags to our room.
Our room was no. 4 and was half way down the stairs so not too bad to climb at all.
We got to the room there was a lovely bouquet of flowers on the table with a note saying 'welcome, we hope you enjoy your stay' and found ourselves looking straight through 3 huge windows! out to a lovely canal and the beautiful Westerkerk Church.
Yes the bells rang a bit but these are the same bells that Anne Frank heard (the Frank house is just a small block away) during their time in hiding and this is Amsterdam so we weren't expecting no noise.
The hotel is in a nice neighbourhood and the stroll to Dam Square is only about 10 minutes but that is also far enough away from the crazyness (but hilarious-ness) of the red light district to be quite alot less busy and we weren't disturbed in the night.
We had a fan in the room, which was nice.
My only complaint would be that we were given 2 single beds (which in itself isn't a problem) but the single beds were tiny!! I would say a few inches smaller than a normal single bed and I did feel like I was going to fall out a few times.
Oh and another thing was the toilet roll.... really not what you would expect from a hotel... bit like school toilet paper...
The breakfast was pretty good, breads, rolls, cheese, croissants, yogurts, coffee, tea, biscuits, jams, peanut butter, honey, apples etc... We certainly filled up enough and enjoyed it.. the breakfast room is very small but everyone seemed to get a seat and it does run from 7.30-10.30am so time for everyone.
So, all in all I would definately recommend this to friends, family etc
Quite small rooms but enough for your needs - who stays in their room while in Amsterdam? very friendly staff, clean, tidy, price and location all massive plus points.
....and they encourage Trip Advisor reviews (in a Thank you for staying email) which in my mind is very encouraging that they take customer service very seriously and do their best to keep everyone happy.
oh and they also have free wifi... bit slow but it worked and enough to let us check in online etc and check emails.
