“Great location for the price!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

I have stayed at the Nadia hotel twice. The first time we stayed we were given a double room with a large balcony which was fantastic and why we booked to stay a 2nd time two years later.

On check in, we were offered a welcome drink while they sorted the rooms, as they seemed to have a problem finding one of our reservations. Didn't take long however and when we got to our room, it was tiny!! And no balcony, i suppose it was niave of me to assume all the rooms had balconies. The room was fine however for the both of us, as we didn't spend much time in there, and the bed was comfy when we got back. The bathroom we had this time was fine aswell, shower was decent. however our friend who had a single room further along the corridor, had a wet room style shower, so the floor was wet then if you went back in after showering.

We had the breakfast which was fine. Croissants, toast, cheese, yoghurts, cake. and then the usual tea/coffee/orange juice. The only downside was that the room did have a smell of smoke, but it wasn't there all the time, i think maybe if people were smoking in nearby rooms it would waft through. The room had a safe, and a fridge and a TV.

Overall pleasant stay again, and i would definately ask for a balcony room if we were to come back again. Yes the stairs are steep and long, but the staff were great and there was a guy who helped us with the cases. Also we could store our cases there at the end of our stay at no charge, which was good as we had a late flight home so it meant we didn't have to drag our things around all day with us. Its probably about a 10 min walk, if that, from Dam square, so location is the main thing.

Room Tip: Choose a balcony!!!

I chose this place based on the recommendations of other TripAdvisor members and as usual, their ratings lived up to my expectations. Only one thing was difficult about the place: the stairway! It was very steep that hauling your luggage to your room was risky. Otherwise the place was fabulous, accessible to a tram stop, restaurants and the sights of the old city section.

Great base to explore Amsterdam.Staff couldn't be more helpfull.Room was a bit small but we had a balcony and everything else in there that we have found in much more expensive hotels.Beds very comfortable and good continental breakfast would definately consider this hotel on another visit.

I was so looking forward to staying here after reading the reviews. How this is hotel is in the Top 30 in Amsterdam, I don't quite know. I travelled with a friend and we got given Room 209. TERRIBLE! See photo. It was about 6 feet wide/under 2m. and contained 2 very narrow single beds. THe 'view' was of a light well so it was so dark even in the middle of the day. We needed the lights on all the time. The fridge was mounted on the wall about 2m. from the ground. The safe was on a further shelf upwards so you had to stand on the bed to reach it (about 7 feet up!). There was no room for two people to pass each other or to open suitcases unless the cases were on the bed. In short, the room was miniscule.

We managed to sleep a bit but in the morning, the tiny bathroom (wetroom) was a disaster. The shower nozzle sprayed everywhere apart from downwards; we simply could not wash or get wet all over. After about 2 minutes the water was not draining away and I was ankle deep in it. The whole bathroom was entirely flooded - all the way up to the loo. It was only the lip of the door that prevented the water from gushing into the bedroom. It was too terrible to endure so we spoke to reception. They expressed surprise and eventually we got back to find we had a new room, room 201. Much better. There was about a foot of space around each of the beds - it felt luxurious in comparison but was still relatively small and poky. This room had a proper bathroom and working shower.

Am guessing that 209 was one of the budget rooms and it's just lucky dip which room you get allocated, but this honestly was terrible.

Food-wise, can highly recommend the rijsttafel at Long Pura Indonesian restaurant (turn left out of the hotel and walk about 200m, then cross the road) or Jennifer Cafe which was opposite the hotel which did great pancakes and much cheaper than Sara's which is a couple of doors down from the hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid Room 209!

Upon entering the Nadia hotel, we were faced with the steepest, pinkest staircase ever! Luckily a porter quickly came down and grabbed both our (very heavy) bags for us and raced up to the reception one floor up (we don't know how he did it!). The front desk staff were just amazing, the most helpful we came across on our whole trip. Once we were checked in, the porter took our bags up to the fourth floor (again, no idea how such a small man did this with such ease) and we entered our room. It was really lovely - cosy, warm environment with a queen bed in the corner and beautiful red and amber lighting throughout. The bathroom was on the small side but did it's job well enough. Our window opened out to the next building which had a large courtyard on its roof. The bed was very comfortable and the TV worked well, even though most shows were not in English so we didn't watch it much. The location is great, with a short 2 minute walk to the Anne frank house and hop on hop off canal boat, or a 10 minute walk up the street to a vibrant hub of shops, cafes and cars. Would definitely recommend (as long as you're physically able to walk up stairs!).

Room Tip: try and book a room closer to the ground level if you don't want to walk up 5 flights of steep s...

Had a lovely stay here in November for three nights. Location was perfect, staff were friendly and hotel room was ideal. I would definitely recommend this hotel and I would stay here again when visiting Amsterdam in the future.
