“We must have gone on a Bad Day”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

I have heard so many great comments about this Hotel and restaurant so I am convinced we went on an off day. The place is very chic in a traditional sense. In fact, at one of the tables we watched as some of their guests were evaluating their sizable bag of diamonds. Both the inside and waterside restaurant areas are beautiful but when it came to the food service we were underwhelmed. I ordered the seafood soup which was more like a paste, while friend ordered the chicken was undercooked and was still pink inside. My girlfriends steak was good and she was kind enough to share some with me. I have to believe this was a bad day for them because it's world famous. We had a bite to eat another restaurant about an hour later.

Room Tip: We did not visit the rooms but rather dined in their restaurant. The location and view is beautiful...

We stayed here during the Gay Pride Festival last month and had a blast. The hotel is so extremely well situated, and although in the very heart of the city, it’s far enough away from the Red-Light district and all the noisy bars and clubs.

We were fortunate enough to get a room with a balcony, overlooking the river and were able to watch the parade of boats and floats as they passed beneath us. This is our third visit this year, and I think another one is in order, later this year. I have stayed in a few 5 Star Hotels in Amsterdam, but I can confidently assure anyone thinking of visiting the city, that this is definitely the right choice to make.

Our family just spent 3 nights at this hotel. It is a "typical" 5-star luxury hotel. The building is beautiful. Staff was lovely. They even helped us with a surprise cake for my daughter's birthday. Rooms were well-appointed. The bed was very comfortable. Our view was lovely. We did hear some street/canal noise but this was not bothersome.

The bathroom was lovely with ample towels. One of our bathroom sinks drained very slowly. I did inform the front desk, but it was not fixed. As we only have 1 sink in our bathroom at home, this did not bother us. The toiletries were average.

The included breakfast was adequate and basic. Service was lovely. However, there were no a la carte items included (which in my experience is more common in a hotel of this level). Breakfast began at 7 am...which I think is a bit late for early risers.

We had dinner at the Hoofstad Brasserie in the hotel (included in our package). The view and ambiance was lovely. The wind screens and heaters were much appreciated. The food was average.

We did not use any of the other amenities because we were always on the go.

But the most important feature of this hotel is its location, location, location. It is in a prime central location on a canal. We were easily able to walk all over the city including to the Red Light District, the Museumplein, and the Concertgebouw without any difficulties (except for those bicycles!).

Our diva travel family would certainly recommend this hotel for its location and typical 5-star luxury. It was not extra-ordinary in terms of 5-star quality...but we were very satisfied.

Our canal view room was very spacious, with a great bed, electronics and bathroom. The location is perfect for exploring the old central city, as well as the major attractions of this great city. Service and food were very good, although not exceptional. We felt the Hotel was a good value although on the expensive. The Hotel is used by many tour groups going on river cruises, so it gets quite busy, but our room was always very quiet and private.

Room Tip: Canal views are well worth the extra money.

I have stayed in almost every other good hotel in Amsterdam in the last 20 years or so and am now regretting not staying at the de l"europe years ago. Service is exceptional, food is great and i could find nothing to fault. Will be returning in a few months time for sure.

Overall I was happy with this hotel I just would of liked to seen more consistent customer service from all staff. Some were veey nice while others not so much. The hotel itself was beautiful, you can really feel the history. Rooms were gourgeous along with the patio restaurant and Freddy's bar. Didn't have a chance to visit the spa but looked very relaxing.
