“Very nice place, very nice location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

We arrived at about 2:30 AM and despite the time, we were quickly welcomed and shown to our room. The room was very nice, quite roomy and comfortable. Very nice bathroom. Everything clean and in good repair. Although the room was right on the street, it was quiet, and the hotel itself was quiet, even though it had a lot of guests. We did not get breakfast included, although on the first morning we did eat at the hotel — a bit expensive, but not out of line for hotel breakfasts. The staff was professional and very helpful. The location was great. Free wifi!

Booked a trip to Amsterdam to celebrate my 30th birthday via Easyjet holidays and picked Hotel Vondel as it looked lovely on the pictures.
We took the bus from the airport (97 i think) which dropped off at Leidsplan which is less than a 5 min walk from the hotel, very handy!
our flight was delayed so we arrived quite late but we were greeted by lovely friendly reception staff who showed us to our rooms. I had read lots of reviews on here before the trip and was aware any room with a 1 in front is basement and they have awful reviews so my heart sank when i seen we were in one of those rooms. When we first entered the first thing i could smell was sewers, it was so strong, we went straight back to reception to tell them and they advised there was no other rooms available for the night but if we went back in the morning we could be moved, in the meantime they had someone come and spray the room with air freshner. Despite the smell the room was actually really nice, very spacious and it was more street level than basement at the back of the hotel. Bathroom lovely and clean, great rain shower, tv etc all fine and most importantly the bed was soooooo comfortable! honestly we slept like babies all weekend. Such a shame about the smell as thats really my only issue. We went out the following day and after a day of sightseeing in the rain we really just couldnt be bothered with the upheaveal of moving rooms so in the end we just stayed put, we kind of got used to the smell in the end, ha! the staff did come round to check if we were ok in case we wanted to move which was nice but we told them we were happy to stay.
the amazing nights sleep we had definitley helped. Besides, how long are you really spending in a hotel room??
we had breakfast included in our package so we ate there both mornings. we were very impressed with it. The selection was great, the pastries were delicious, great hot delection and the additional menu items a bonus, very good value. the staff were always super friendly and attentive always filling up coffee and checking if we wanted anything. more than enough to fill us up for the day. no complaints! we also ate in the restaurant one evening and the gentleman who was serving etc was amazing, so welcoming and friendly, we were so impressed with him. The food was also delicious, yummy soup and i had a piece of venison cooked to perfection. lovely wine and lovely relaxed atmosphere. highly recommend.
location of the hotel is a huge plus point! opposite Leidsplan so great transport links and really close to the beautiful Vondel Park and the muesum district, we walked everywhere. took the tram to Anne Frank haus but again it was walkable.
overall we really enjoyed our stay at the Vondel, we will definitley return when we are next in the city but we will look to request a room on a higher floor to make sure we have an even better experience.

Following a recommendation from a friend, just stayed in the Vondel with another couple from Perth, Western Australia. We're also joined by cousins from the UK. Hotel is excellent, so good in fact that we are staying there again in January at the end of our European vacation. Quirky and really reflects local Dutch culture and cuisine. The best points about the hotel are location to Central Amsterdam, friendly professional staff, all of them but particularly Max, cleanliness, great buffet breakfast including hot and cold choices, good free wi-fi, comfortable beds and a nice bar area. We loved our standard room which wasn't a bad size for Europe, but some of the other rooms were quite small. This I to be expected as the hotel consists of a number of houses joined together. Lots of stairs but there is a lift. We are middle aged travellers, but my young cousin in her late 20's also loved it. We travel a lot and the Vondel is right up there with our pick of European hotels. One word of caution, Friday and Saturday nights in Amsterdam are lively and so are some of the locals in the early morning, but Sunday night was silent. 5 - 10 minute walk from the major museums, 5 minute walk from major canal and hop on boats, 15 minute walk to Anne Frank house or red light district, 5 - 10 minute walk from super shopping.

Room Tip: If light sleeper, ask for rooms at rear of hotel.

Our flight to Amsterdam didnt get in until after 8pm and we didnt reach the hotel until around 10pm. We were greeted with a warm welcome at the reception desk and up to our room. Stunning room and quite large as most people seem to whinge about the size of hotel rooms in amsterdam. The spread that was at breakfast was first class something for everyone. I will be returning :)

We were allocated room 103 when arriving late at night. It was only in the morning that we realised that it was a basement room with only tiny windows above head height. Lots of noise from passers-by and lights illuminating the room frequently as the little windows are at car lamp level. Room was very small, good shower but awful, tiny basin. Also a lot of plumbing noises when others used bathrooms.
We did not eat in the hotel.
Great location for museum area and public transport but there are many other hotels in the area. I would not choose to stay here again.

I did stay this time in The Vondel Hotel as I do like the chain (Vondel, Roemer and JL 72 hotels).
I have tried to book at the Roemer my favorite, but helas that one was sold out. When checking in, the concierge told me that if I wanted to upgrade to a better room, there would be one available in Roemer ? I indicated that I was tired and wanted to go to my room to get a powernap. I realized that the beds were very soft and quite movable two seperate beds . There was no coffe in the room nor tea. Recalling my stays at the other hotels, I remember that in these hotels where also very soft: no good for my back. Coffee was available in the other hotels.
In this hotel the WIFI was very sloooooow
Location excellent

Room Tip: do not pick a room in the basement. One can hear every pedestriant walk by

Free iPad and touring bikes, near popular museums and the Vondelpark - you could do A LOT worse than stay here. Quirky and fun. Highly recommend staying a few minutes away from the very commercial and tacky centre because there are conveniently located tram stops nearby.
