While we were waiting to check in 3 seperate guests/parties were complaining about their rooms and asking to be moved. Not a good start. Also there was a number of small kids running about the foyer and bar, so it was mayhem and noisy when we walked in. When it was our turn to check I asked the person who was checking us in if there was a sewing kit in the room as I had torn my dress getting out of the taxis...she rolled her eyes annoyed at me and said she'd send it up to the room, it never arrived. She was an intern and when I went down later to try get a sewing kit a very nice staff member gave me one.

I felt claustrophic throughout my stay, the rooms are tiny which I knew about but the corriders are like warrens and hopefully there will never be a fire as you'd have no hope of getting out. Wild horse couldn't drag me back.

This hotel may be a victim of too much design. Our bathroom had no hooks to hang towels on, the movie channel did not work and the shower had no shelves to place shampoo or soap. Our room had stairs going down to the very small sitting room and the bathroom...not very practical. We booked one of their packages but ended up having to ask for everything that was promised in the package. The staff is friendly but does not seem to carry through on their promises, with the result that we had to keep asking for what things we had already requested. For the price, I would have expected better facilities and better service.

Stayed at the Vondel from 24/10 to 27/10. Booked a medium double room through the internet, which when we arrived was very small (would not like to see the small double room). No mirror in the bedroom, has to use a mirror inside the wardrobe door, which while it was a good size,was difficult when trying dry your hair, as one had to stretch the hairdryer flex around the door(not exaclty safe). Over all the room was a little cramped, particularly as you entered the room, the bathroom door was to the right as you entered the room, so when you opened the door into the hotel room it blocked the bathroom door. However, the rest of the hotel was good, with a nice bar area and nice lounge area, with resident cat! The staff were friendly and competent (which was the case everywhere we went in the city). Good location in a nice quiet residential area, but still witihn walking distance to Dam Square and all attractions (Van Gogh, Rijksmuseum, Anne Frank House, shopping). Really pity about the room sizes. Would stay again if was sure of getting a better room.

Pits of a hotel, bedroom was a cupboard, bathroom stunk and was so 1970s. Appalling and it cost me more for the weekend with flights than 5 days in Rome in a proper 5 star hotel. Do not bother as you will be really, really disappointed.
