I booked this hotel because of the location near the Museum district and Leidesplein for nightlife. Also because it looked quirky and small enough not to be too impersonal. The location was ideal, especially if you intend to use trams/buses to get about and also because the street was quiet at night. I was a bit disappointed though because we must have had the worst room there. It was tiny. Ok that's not too much of an issue but it was in the basement with no windows apart from two skylights that looked out at pavement level. Also we were directly below the dining room which had wooden floors so that in the early morning you could hear every footfall above. Also the hotel does seem to try too hard to be "trendy". Decor is "Ikea" style but a little shabby and battered around the edges. Having said all that, the room was wonderfully clean and the bed was amazingly comfortable. As it was winter, and absolutely freezing outside, the lack of windows and outlook was not too much of a problem but I would have asked to change rooms if it had been spring/summer. Breakfast was adequate and the staff were very friendly. Beware - the bar is extortionately expensive. A beer and a glass of wine was £13 - now that the pound and euro have parity the whole break was crazily expensive. If we went to Amsterdam again I would try to stay in one of the rated Bed and Breakfast accommodations rather than a hotel for a more relaxed experience.
