This is an excellent hotel for tourists. It is within walking distance of the major museums and streetcars.

The staff is very friendly and they gave us good advice on where to visit and where to eat.

The hotel serves an excellent buffet breakfast every morning.

The only negatives were that our room never got quite warm enough and there were only bottom sheets on the beds - no top sheet to separate you from the bedcover.

This hotel is an excellent value and I'd definitely stay there again.

We stayed at the Piet Hein, and I recommend this hotel to travelers. It is located near the north end of the Vondelpark, a 5 minute walk to the Ledersplein area.

The only slight drawback to me is that you smell cigarette smoke EVERYWHERE out there, so be prepared for that.

The hotel room had a nice size for a hotel in Europe. The staff was VERY nice and friendly to us, (they helped us numerous times with directions, arranging a a shuttle to the airport) and the breakfast downstairs (although you pay) was nice as well. I would stay here again!

We had a very nice 3 night stay at the Piet Hein, and we will stay there again when (hopefully) we return to Amsterdamn.

At first the staff was a bit cold to us, actually a little insulting regarding our parking situation. They did warm up after our friendly interaction regarding the one problem with our room. It seems that someone left the hotel in haste and forgot to remove their items from the closet. The staff was extremely apologetic and was grateful that we were understanding. Neither my wife nor I though it was a big deal but they certainly did.

The breakfast buffet was nice, we had to pay but I think it was worth the money. The hotel bar was very pleasant, and the back garden area was quite nice.

Our room overlooked the garden and was quite and comfortable.

One sidenote I will make is NEVER drive into Amsterdam. What a waste of money for parking. If you do drive, bring tons of coins for the parking meters. An evening pass will run you @18 euros, all in coin. We did manage to but a full day pass from the hotel which really helped the other two days (@ 31 euro each day).

We read rave reviews about this place and were very disappointed in what we got as a superior double room. Perhaps they were out of the best rooms and we had the bad luck of being assigned room 121. It did have hot water and heat and CNN. Otherwise, room 121 looks directly out at a brick wall (no trace of a green tree or any other foliage ANYWHERE from our room), the walls inside the room were painted dark brown, not a cozy, inviting place. The bathroom was tiny, barely any room to move inside the shower, no bathtub. If you decide to stay here, make sure you ask for a view and stay away from room 121!
