“Great getaway at the last minute”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2014

Was on a business trip in Germany and some colleagues and I decided to spend the weekend in Amsterdam. Two days before we landed a room with 3 beds on the 4th floor - a little pricey but given the time of year (May) and the last minute nature, we were very happy! Lots of charm and perfect for the first timers. Great view from the room (wooded area behind) - left the windows open and was very comfortable, until a pigeon decided to fly in in the middle of the night and freak out one of my colleagues who nearly beat it to death. :)

15 minute taxi ride from train station - very entertaining by the way. The staff was helpful and friendly. The bar is a good place to get a pre-dinner drink. The single beds were small for 2 of us (6' 3 and 6' 4), but it was very pleasant, clean place to crash after walking all day and partying all night. Rooms were small, but clean and had everything we needed.

Great getaway!

My wife and I stayed there for 3 nights. We asked for a double bed on booking, and they duly obliged. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Our room was on the top floor, but easily accessible by the lift.
The room décor was clean & tidy, the amenities were all in working order. Our free WIfI was working no problem -even on the top floor.
The bathroom was very good. A separate shower from the whirlpool bath and W.C. & washbasin.
Everything was clean & tidy and the cleaners did very good daily job.
Breakfast was lovely, and there was choice of eggs (fried, scrambled & boiled) freshly prepared by the cook. Bacon sausages were also on the menu along with the usual cheese & hams etc.Breakfast room & gardens were tastefully decorated.
The bar was a bit pricey, but that is what you expect for a city centre hotel.
I would recommend this hotel for a mini break. The trams are near to the hotel which is good for jumping on and going sightseeing. Also the Museums are in very close proximity, which makes this hotel ideal for visiting Amsterdam.

Room Tip: Rooms adjacent to the Vondel park may pick up noise from the late night revellers there. But if you...

I stayed at Piet Hein for two nights at the end of March. The hotel is perfectly located in close proximity to the museums and my room, on the third floor, overlooked Vondelpark. It was a very pleasant 20 minute walk from the Central Station and within walking distance of all of the main attractions in Amsterdam.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 4 days, from the very start of booking in the staff were extremely helpful. The room was spotless and the bed really comfortable, we were on the 5th floor and had a lovely view of the park, the museums were just around the corner and if you enjoy walking we could walk virtually everywhere if not trams, buses and boats were all near at hand. I would highly recommend this hotel. Excellent value for your money.

Room Tip: Higher floors at the front have a lovely view of the park

Hotel Piet Hein gets a star for very friendly service at the reception and another one for free Wi fi in the room.

Bathroom extraction fan cannot be turned off. It's not as loud as a jet engine... But it's pretty damn loud.

Room smelled of drains.

Opened window to hotel courtyard and a steady breeze of cigarette smoke came in...

I am writing this from the hotel. I am staying on my own in a superior double.

Would not stay here again. Even marketing itself as a cheaper alternative does not excuse the woeful quality.. I have 4 nights left. Ugh!

On my quick trip to Amsterdam this hotel was a great option, it was a reasonable price and location was super convenient to museums, the center, transport (trams lines 2&5 and bus 197 to/from the airport stops nearby) and the Vondelpark. The hotel is clean and well-maintained with a modern look. However, this doesn't correspond to a 'luxury' rating -- don't expect toiletries, robes or your choice of pillows. Do expect a very small bathroom, and fairly tight room, but decent beds (I had two twins pushed together that 'passed' for king size). The breakfast buffet was better than similarly-priced in other hotels I think. And the staff truly was helpful and friendly all-around.

This hotel has the most helpful and courteous staff. It is in a fabulous location. We wanted to go to all the wonderful museums and all were within walking distance. Our room was very comfortable. The lobby is great with a nice bar as well. We would definitely return.
