“Good Value and Good Sleep”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2014

A city map clearly shows that the Nes is in a prime location for visiting everything that Amsterdam has to offer. It does not show the pubs, restaurants, cafes, deli and chocolate shop that are all within a few minutes walk from the Nes and that are full of people who live in the neighborhood. Although you can find larger, more luxurious hotels with larger rooms in this prime location, they are all much more expensive than the Nes and, in general, do not offer rooms with canal views comparable to those at the Nes. The views from the Nes rooms that face the canal are outstanding, and more than compensate for the small size of the rooms. The rooms have enough space to accommodate two bags of the size you can carry-on an international flight, but would be a problem for travelers with large or multiple bags. A feature not often mentioned about the Nes is that it has a large, pleasant living room downstairs from reception. This is a particularly nice feature when it is raining or when one person wants to stay up very late reading. The Nes is a small hotel so that the persons working at reception recognize the guests and are eager to help. We have stayed at the Nes more than a dozen times and have never been disappointed.

Room Tip: Be sure to choose a room with a canal view. The higher floors are preferable.

I like this hotel because it's close to everything, you can walk to the main atractions. It is bit expensive, like all hotels in the area. The receptionist was very nice and helped us to book a taxi for our departure. The breakfast buffet was nice too, the food was fresh. The rooms were small but there was enough space to open our luggages, that its all the space we need. The internet is paid in the rooms but it works just fine. I read some reviews saying the bathroom was flooded when they took a shower, but I didn't have this problem, The bathroom is very large by the way.

This hotel is very well located. But in the area you have many other hotels, similarly priced, which provide a much better experience.

The room is minute, and the water from the shower fills the bathroom.

There aren't enough electric plugs so you may need to unplug the tv if you want to charge your phone/iPad.

Some of the staff at reception are not particularly friendly.

The room didn't feel very clean.

After paying for late check out, I was still disturbed because reception hadn't informed housekeeping who banged at the door as if there was an emergency. When I later complained at reception I was told: "There's nothing we can do now", which, even if true, is not exactly polite. No apologies for this

Housekeeping is in fact extremely noisy. I woke up a few times every time they were doing one of the rooms next door.

I really didn't like this hotel and definitely wouldn't stay again. But need to add that location is indeed excellent.

Agree with all the recent reviews on the size of the rooms but that said they were clean and well kept. Good location and I found the staff helpful. Breakfast finished a little early for me but a fair selection of food.

The pros: the location. 15 min walking from the central station, 5 min to Dam square, lots of bars, restaurants around but very quite at the same time.
Cons: rooms are small. There is not sound isolation. You can hear every whisper in the room next to yours as well as every move when your neighbors have sex. The other night we had a group of British guys in the next room...they were shouting, laughing and watching TV and it felt like they were all in our room. The hotel has no intimacy whatsoever. I would not stay there again.
And on top...the price is too high for such an establishment.

Great location! Room was a bit small, but everything was there. Stuff was friendly. Breakfast was OK, not luxurious but OK. Only "bad thing" I can mention was street renovation works in font of hotel during our stay, but luckily the was holiday for workers also.

Nothing works, no service from the staff, location is good but everything else is crap, do yourself a favour and stay somewhere (ANYWHERE!!) else. How this place gets 3 stars I don't know!! Must write some/all of their own better reviews!! That's the only way they could get good reviews in my opinion!!!
