“Wonderful weekend stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Very central. The staff were very friendly and gave good directions and advice about sight seeing and restaurants. We loved the room, not your standard square box, internet connection was excellent, English TV for when we had to rest our tired feet. The bar was a lovely social place for a nightcap. Felt safe walking around the area at night.
If I have to add a negative, the lift was slow!

Looked up and down trip advisor in search of perfect hotel in center city. Picked Albus after reading other reviews. The location is perfect central to popular areas, 12min walk to Red Light district, 15 min to Anne Frank or Van Gogh museums. don't bring a car you won't need it! Walk or bike to everything in town. The reception staff we encountered (Sofia and Maartje) could not have been more friendly or accommodating. I firmly believe reception staff can make or brake a hotel experience. These woman go out of their way to assist you and help make more then your hotel stay enjoyable. Rooms are cozy but very clean. Nice hotel at great price, free wifi coffee and water in rooms. Unlike other hotels that charge 4euros for a bottle of water. You will not regret your stay at this quaint perfectly located hotel.

Overall, the experience was alright. But, I think I'll be looking for another hotel next time I'm in the area.

First, the photos of the hotel look fantastic. But, when you're in the room, you see that the bathrooms are not very nice, and very out of date. Also, the furniture hasn't been maintained very well. In my room, the arm on the desk chair was in disrepair and one of the bedside lamps was missing. A floor-standing lamp in the room did not stand vertically; it was cocked off to the side. And, the floor-standing fan (more on that below) did the same; it was cocked to the side.

Furthermore, the rooms are not air conditioned. They have a radiator for heat, but no forced-air cooling. Somehow the building as a whole stays fairly warm, so in October when it's fairly cool out, it was necessary to open the windows and turn on the floor-standing fan in the room just to keep the room cool enough to occupy. The hotel's located in a very busy area, so it is very loud in the room when the windows are open. They provided ear plugs in the room, presumably to help. Furthermore, the climate is very damp there with the proximity to water and all the rain they get - so, opening the windows made the room muggy.

One final issue is that the queen/king size bed was actually 2 twin beds pushed together. They were made individually. So, they each had individual twin-sized sheets and comforters on them. Not what you'd expect when you book a queen/king room.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating, so a major plus there. But, the facilities left much to be desired.

Our stay was fantastic. The front desk staff was superb. Very friendly and helpfull.
The location is great. Amsterdam tram service within a 100 yards.Great restaurants everywhere.
The hotel restaurant was great for breakfast. The room was a good size with wifi and a great bed and shower. No AC in the room so we left the windows open. Very comfortable temperature wise but you do hear all the overnight sirens from the street below. Nice touch to this, the hotel provides earplugs which worked great. On check in the staff recommended a few activites.
We took advantage of the 10 euro canal boat ride..it was fantastic..we bought a 2 day travel card..giot to ride the tram everywhere.. A great system . Even took it to the train station on our departure..as most travellers do i forgot my hat in the room when we left.. to the hotel staff a big thanks ...they boxed it up and mailed back to my home address..It is nice to know that people like that do exsist in the accomendation industry. Highly recomend the Albus hotel...

Room Tip: Ask for a room not overlooking the main street if night noise is a problem for you..

The Hotel is in an excellent location within easy walking access to the whole of central Amsterdam. On arrival , reception could not do enough for our group of six. We arrived at about 10.00 O'clock not expecting to be in our rooms until 14.00; we were all in rooms within 15 minutes. Coffee was given to all of us as we completed our registration - never had that before in any hotel around the world. We were also given all the information we needed about Amsterdam - including booking tickets for museums (which did save us much time during our visit). The rooms were well furnished ,spotlessly clean and well maintained throughout our stay. A really comfortable nights sleep. Everyone that works in the hotel is friendly and helpful and went out of their way to ensure that we had everything that we needed. We used the breakfast room every day and were very satisfied with both the selection and quality on offer. More tea or coffee? Never a problem. We had an evening meal in the restaurant and again the quality and service was excellent as was the menu selection. It would be unfair to mention people individually as everyone ( including trainees!) consistently gave an outstanding level of customer service. Really enjoyed giving such a positive review for this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear have a good view over gardens.

Good points:
Location in the centre of town
Modern decor
Comfortable rooms
Clean
Nespresso machine in room
Non smoking policy with 200€ fine to offenders
Breakfast ok
Good for holidaying and late night partying in Amsterdam

Not so good points:
Rather noisy - not just from traffic but also from loud and uncaring fellow hotel customers (room to room insulation)
Small common area and restaurant
Not my definition of 'boutique'
Not good for business traveller

Great location and staff, in fact, one of the best staff I have ever met. Very friendly and helpful. The hotel is modern, clean, and up to date on what on expects from a hotel. It on a main street, which gets a lot of traffic, but that is to be expected when you book a hotel in the city center. They did provide ear plugs if the outside noise is too much for you. We didn't use them.
