My wife and I stayed at The Albus for a night on 25 August 2013 on our returning leg from the US just to break the journey before returning to Malaysia. We took the "TripAdvisor" offer of a bedroom at the rear and was not disappointed. The offer also comes with a welcome drink of either beer, wine, or coffee, and access to free Wifi. We also booked the discounted breakfast at the hotel, just for the experience. We came down late at 10am and was told the breakfast closes at 10.30am, and with most of the food not replenished (especially the fruits), we made do with what's left within the half hour. The room we stayed was the Splendid City Twin Room (22-24m²), with a King bed at the rear of the hotel (after reading the reviews of TripAdvisor) to avoid the noise at the front. Our booking includes a free upgrade to Stunning City Suite (subject to availability upon arrival), but we were quite pleased with what we have got although we did not get the upgrade (we assume none was available). Our room is already spacious, quiet, and comes with a small settee area, with two leather settees. The disappointment though, is that there is no air conditioning in the room, but the hotel did provide two tower fans, which was just about sufficient to cool the room with the windows wide open. There is a coffee maker in the room, but we did not get to enjoy. The bathroom has a rain shower, but the water pressure isn't strong enough to thoroughly enjoy the shower. There is also an alternative shower point for those who prefer to hold and wash up with the shower head and for a stronger water pressure. The reception staff has been great and was very helpful in recommending an excellent local restaurant, which we went for our dinner about 15 minutes walk away (can be shorter if we are familiar with the street). The lift in the hotel can be a bit slow, which at times do test our patience for the lift to come. The hotel is centrally located and is a short walking distance to the flower market, City of Amsterdam museum, and the canal boat ride, and many places of interests and eateries. We took the airport shuttle bus which drops us at the front of the hotel for Euro33 (for two persons), but for the return, we took the taxi (upon the recommendation of the reception staff) at Euro40, to avoid the need to walk to another pick up point. The hotel do not offer Iamsterdam card, so if you plan to visit many museums and use alot more of the trams, do buy the card from the airport. If I return to Amsterdam, I will stay at the hotel again, but not during the summer months, unless the room is air conditioned.
