“Value in Amsterdam”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

We found this hotel suited our needs perfectly for a two night stay out of the downtown area. Conveniently located close to the metro station at Amstel, it was used as a base to travel all over the town.

Clean and quiet, the practical room design make this hotel a good choice for any length of stay. Young and friendly front desk staff easily answered all of our questions and the maid found a misplaced adaptor plug which we did not know that we had lost.

Easy access to the station meant that we did not use a taxi from the airport despite our advancing years. The transit system is excellent and may be navigated without carrying luggage up any stairs.

Use the youtube video to familiarise yourself with the route from station to lobby. A great innovation.

Stayed two nights in April on the 6 floor facing a canal, It was very quiet. Good natural lighting due to the large window which covered an entire wall. The bed was comfortable. Wifi was good.
Easily reached from Schiphol airport by train to Amstel station, then a ten minute walk.
There aren't many food or entertainment outlets nearby but we enjoyed a slow 30 minute walk along the Amstel river ,crossing a bridge to the Albert Cuyp market.
We enjoyed the breakfast
Service staff were all very helpful and pleasant.

Amazing hotel, abit of a walk to town but definitely will be going again. Rooms are very modern and clean. The view however could have been better
We rented out bicycles, which was a nice ride into town as number of restaurants in this particular part of Amsterdam is scarce.

This hotel feels a bit too large and too high-end-aspiring given its relatively non-central location which isn't central in Amsterdam. It is however quite convenient still given a 5 minute walk to Amstel train and metro station which takes you into the center in less than 10 minutes. While at the hotel, you can also borrow/rent a bike and easily bike into the city centre following the nice East cost of the Amstel river.

You won't find many restaurants (just one) nearby, but go down to the Amstel river and you'll find a few really good ones. A sunny day, lots of people will clutter there outside enjoying a beer.

The hotel is designed with much attention to design, but perhaps a bit less attention to details. It is cool to have an interior garden with a waterfall; the restaurant/café/deli is really cosy; the little "digital" fellow is everywhere and the "xxx" in the carpets are a tribute to Amsterdam. And Wi-Fi works well without stupid login procedures.

But in the room, there's really no place to sit and work - or enough power plugs in the right positions to allow it. The lighting is cool at first until you realise that there's no way NOT to have fluorescent light lit. And that light is far from cosy even if coming out of panels (see picture).

And in the cool restaurant, most windows are facing a not-so-fun-to-look-at backside parking lot.

Still recommended, but perhaps more for pleasure than for work - and a bit overpriced given its location and near surroundings.

The hotel is 10 min ride on trum from the center and 5 min walk from the staition, you can catch a trum every 5 min, so it wasnt an issue for us and we enjoyed the ride, worth the distance. The rooms are new, clean, and the service and the staff were kind.

Period & duration of stay: April 2015, 3 nights
Average price paid per night: € 204, excluding breakfast (€ 12,50), excluding city tax (€ 9,60)

Room
Location & noise level: my room was located on the 5th floor, towards a quiet side street. No noise problems.
Size: The room size was acceptable for a European city hotel.
Furniture & design: modern and sober design, furniture of good quality
Bed: very large and comfortable bed
Amenities: soluble coffee, tea, kettle, no bottled water
Cleanliness: perfect
Technology: Wifi was free of charge and working reliably and fast, TV not used
A/CO: I tried to use it, but it didn’t work. It was probably not yet activated (spring time). My room pointed South/West, so that the room heated up quite a bit when I came back in the late afternoon.

Bathroom
Cleanliness: perfect
Bathtub/separate shower cabin: no bathtub, big shower cabin
Shower curtain: no, glass doors
Materials used: good

Service
Check in / Check out: smoothly, friendly, efficiently
Helpfulness & behavior: people at the reception were very friendly and helpful. We received a couple of recommendations for sightseeing and public transport
Laundry: not used

Breakfast
We didn’t take breakfast

Restaurants & other facilities
We didn't use the restaurant/bar.
The hotel disposed about a big and spacious underground parking. Price: € 3 per hour / maximum of € 20 per 24hrs

Hotel location
Neighborhood: there are not so many things to do in the direct neighborhood of the hotel.
Distance to places of interest: Amstel metro and train station is just a 5-10 minutes’ walk away. The city center is another 15 minutes away. Metro is riding the whole night. A taxi would cost around € 20 for the trip.

Overall recommendation rate: 8/10 points
The average price of € 204 per night was a bit high. The average price consisted of 3 nights, for which they charged € 144, € 184 and € 284 respectively. This last one is certainly exagerated.

WOW! Thank you for your great comments into detail in your review. Great to hear you enjoyed your stay and although we are not situated in the city center, you made good use of easy public transportation possibilities, or next time try out our bikes! You will see there are enough great things to do in our Amsterdam Oost area as well, our colleagues in reception will be pleased to inform you!

Hope to see you again!

Nice modern hotel, not too far from the city, close to trams/metro. Our doubt room was on the small side, but we didn't spend that much time in it so no real drama. Staff are great; everything is clean, modern, well maintained. The breakfast was outstanding !
They told us of a very convenient 2 day pass (around 12 euros) that covered metro, trams and buses - a great idea that we certainly gave us good value. WiFi was fast and reliable. Beds were very comfortable and the aircon/heating worked well - wasn't oppressive.
