“Nice hotel Thoroughly enjoyed our stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2011

My wife and I stayed 5 nights at the Casa 400. On arrival, it was raining, and we didn't know what to think about the hotel location. It seemed to be somewhat isolated. However, as we began to explore the surroundings we were pleased with our choice. The Amstel Canal and Station were both within about a 5 minute walk and there was a large supermarket a comfortable 15 min walk away. There was only one restaurant in the immediate vicinity but others could be reached on foot in 10 -15 minutes. There was also a restaurant in the hotel which looked quite nice but we didn't eat there.
We regularly walked into the city and back along the canal which was very scenic and took about 50 minutes each way. From Amstel to central station was a 7 minute ride.
The hotel also had bicycles for hire for $EU13 daily.
As for the hotel itself:

Pros:

- As stated we liked the location being outside the main city area but still easily accessible via train or casual walk along the Amstel Canal
- Very professional, friendly and informative reception staff
- Hotel is near new and the room was quite spacious and well appointed
- Lovely bathroom and great hot shower
- FREE WIFI in room
- Mini bar, safe and plenty of wardrobe space
- Comfy beds and good block out curtains

CONS:

- the hotel was just off the map provided by the hotel. It would have been nice to have had a map showing hotel location as well as the location of supermarkets and Restaurants in the vicinity

We stayed at this hotel while going to a conference. The hotel is very clean, newly remodeled, spacious, safe, bright, welcoming, and modern. There is a nice restaurant in the building, and while it is not in the main part of the city, it is close to a great restaurant (Cafe Dauphine) as well as the Amstel Station which is across the street. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. They even had great bikes to rent at a reasonable price, and there was free wifi that worked great. I was extremely satisfied with the quality of the hotel, and the price for the stay was very reasonable. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: A twin room is comfortable for two.

We stayed for four nights in June. I'll start with the positives. It is a modern hotel with spacious rooms.
However we encountered a number of problems whilst we were there. Firstly, we had booked a Double room and had a condirmation in our hand yet reception would only give us gave us a Twin Bedroom. As this hotel caters for large overseas bus groups there were long time consuming lines at reception. The hotel is a long way from the city centre, only one restaurant nearby, so your only option is to take the metro to get anywhere. Fortunately, the metro is 5 minutes away.Perhaps the biggest problem of all was the building works going on next door. The noise would start early in the morning and continue into the late afternoon. A lot of Loud pounding and banging. There was a huge crane on the building site so it appears the building works will continue for some time yet. We were disappointed with this hotel as it was our first time in Amsterdam.

Room Tip: Ask for a room well away from building site.

Amsterdam is a great city but finding good quality and reasonably priced hotels is somewhat of a lottery. The Hotel Casa 400 is a funky and cheerful hotel with excellent travel connections and located near the canals. The hotel is located near to Amstel station with good metro, train and tram connections. Be warned the hotel is next to a building site which has another six months of build work. However in the three times I have stayed at the hotel there has been no noise or disturbance. The hotel staff are very helpful and there average 3-4 staff at the front reception so there are never any long queues. The rooms are space and bright. I had problems with shower but this was quickly resolved after I compliand. My factor is the location. I am a runner and there are lots of paths and canals that allows for long and pleasant training runs.

Room Tip: Ask for a forward facing room on floors above the 5th floor

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in July and picked it because it was close enough to the center, great price for a new and modern hotel and because of the good reviews on TripAdvisor.

We were pleased with the hotel - it's clean, simple and the staff were great! The staff were very friendly and helpful. They offered very useful information about getting around and helped us print out our museum tickets we purchased online. I can't comment much on breakfast since we opted to eat outside the hotel as we do when we travel.

One thing that bothered me about the hotel was that although there seemed to be a thermostat for cool/hot air it was not working. Being a typical European hotel room, it's not the most spacious and the only window was a very narrow window that only allowed a slit to open. That barely gave way for some ventilation and I felt claustrophobic at times.

The train station is quite close but maybe not close enough for my liking. After a long day of walking and touring, I wished the station was a little closer! The Amstel station had food outlets and stores that will cater to whatever you need.

It's a great hotel if you want to be away from the crazy action in center of town at the end of the day. But if you want to stay out late and be in the life of the party, you may want something closer. I would recommend it for those that are in Amsterdam for reasons other than the party life or for families.

My wife and i stayed on the hotel for 4 days and we were quite satisfyed. the hotel is modern and the staff is very helpfull. There are fine (if expensive) parking facilities and the room was good, roomy, well equipped and with a very fine bathroom. I missed an electric kettle and some Tea/coffee though.. The beds are very hard but big and there are a fine TV with lots of different channels also some English. The breakfast is WAY too expensive but you can buy coffe/bread from a stall in the reception or you can walk to the Railway station (Amstel 5min. away) where you also can get a decent breakfast. It is easy to get into town from Amstel Station where you can catch both Tram and Metro. You can buy passes for 1-2-3-4-5 days which allows you to use Tram/Bus/Metro and it is a cheap way to explore the town. The longest wait we had for a Tram was 8 min.
There are free LAN internet connection which works excellent.

I stayed on this Hotel for 3 nights. The hotel looks modern superficially. But the service and breakfast in particular are in big question mark. My bed sheets were not changed, the room was not cleaned very well. There are very few alternative to eat breakfast. I don't recomend someone to book a room for more than one night. Dj

Thank you for your notice. We are sorry to hear your room wasn't cleaned very well. Do you know our linnen system? Since we've obtained the Golden Greenkey for being an environmentally friendly hotel we let the guest decide whether they would like to change the linen. In case you would like to change the linen, you had the opportunity to put the card: please change my linen on the bed. You can find this card at the night table. In case you didn't put the card on the bed, housekeeping doesn't know you want new linen. Is it possible that this happened?

Please let us know since we value our high standard of cleanliness in the hotel. As we also have contact via facebook, don't hesitate to contact us.

Thank you again for your notice.

Kind regards,
Eline Gerdes
