“Booked double, got single room”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

We had a voucher which clearly said, double room. As we arrived we had to notice that the room was only equipped with a 120cm bed (not even queen size) and only one set of towels. We returned to the reception and were told, that this is fact is supposed to be a double room. They were not able to give us a room with 2 bed before check outs were done next morning.

My friend slept on the floor. What a great experience for $200/night!

Next morning they were still not able to give us another room but promised they would take care of it and as we would come back we would be able to go to another room. Unfortunately when we returned after sightseeing, the reception agent was not informed about that and explained in a rude manner, that there was not any chance of getting another room. We booked a new hotel and left that poor place. The agent was not willing to confirm that we left the hotel early.

Furthermore wi-fi connection was very poor in most parts of the hotel, breakfast was ok, but not what you can expect. No hairdryer at the bathroom. Window was broken and could not be closed entirely (night temps 4c/40F)...!

Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and I really haven't anything good to say about it.

Firstly location - it's in the museum quarter, which is expensive. You're better off staying in the centre of the city and travelling into the museum quarter.

Rooms - very shabby.

Sleep - very disturbed by the Church clock opposite which rang its bells on the hour every hour and then chimed once at half past the hour - our room (no15) was opposite the Church - for goodness sake put in double glazing.

Breakfast - very basic - and served from 7 to 10 by the rudest cook I've ever had the misfortune to come across. One fellow customer came for his breakfast at 9.45 and asked very politely if there were any more tomatoes and had his head bitten off by the cook who shouted at him - 'no - food stops at 10 o'clock' !! On another occasion a few young Spanish girls were finishing their breakfast at 9.55 but chatting to some other guests and they were also shouted at and told 'breakfast finished'. We also had to wait ages for the cook to refill the coffee pot – perhaps she was waiting for 10 o’clock – so she could say ‘no’.

There was one young man on reception who was very efficient and friendly (on duty in the evenings) but he was the only friendly face.

The evening before we checked out we arrived back to the hotel and asked for an early wakeup call at 6am as we had an early flight and a taxi to be called for 7am. Yes the receptionist said 'no problem' and I asked if there was any chance we could have some coffee - (after all we were not having the breakfast we had paid for). (This was not the same receptionist as described above). 'Yes of course' he said 'no problem.' Fortunately we woke up early enough the clock chimed 6 times! The wakeup call did not come until 6.30am. But no coffee arrived - we went downstairs and met the night porter - we asked for our coffee and he said 'you haven't ordered any. I assured him that I had ordered it the night before with his colleague - but he wasn't having it and still did not provide the coffee. When we went to check out and he started mumbling that we hadn't paid our taxes - I really had no idea what he was talking about. Fortunately our taxi arrived and we gladly left!

Just one more point and this one was a real problem the hotel advertised itself as having a bar - we were travelling with a child so this was one of the reasons we chose this hotel - you could get a drink in the safety of your hotel! However on getting back from site seeing on our first day - we found the bar closed. I asked the receptionist (the friendly receptionist) why it wasn't open and he told me the hotel had a new owner and he hadn't open the bar yet as he had to buy the beer etc. Well if the new owner had been there since November and it was now April - how many more guests had he also misled this way? IT REALLY WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH.
On a positive note Amsterdam is a lovely city most of the people are friendly and cheerful. We’ll certainly go back but we’ll stay in a modern hotel in the centre of the city.

Room Tip: On the opposite side to the Church.

This is under new management from 2 months ago, so told me the charming Australian owner, who also owns two others in Amsterdam. It was great, no english were staying there (as we know Amsterdam attracts terrible British on drug and sex tourism), room's were simple and clean. It had all you needed. The breakfast was a good standard and you can rent bikes if you like (although only for the day - 15euro). The area is like a europe LA, lots of money and high net worth people. Christies auction house is near by and some Dutch celebs frequent the area. Right in the mix of the museums district that is about to boom with the reopening of the Rijksmuseum in a couple of months. We couldnt have been more happy with our stay. Amazing value and i will suggest to all visitors to stay here. My only fear is that the price is going to rocket. Wine shope few doors down is good, as is the George restaurant. 5 min away from either major tram line 3 & 5. oh, only thing, was the walls were rather thin, so a noisy neighbours can ruin things.

The hotel is little, quite nice for tourists, who spend the whole day walking, coz it's located very close to the center, price is good, but u shouldn't expect something special. Breakfast is alright, service is nice

room is small, old and a bad smell although it looks physically clean, i m sorry. the walls are thin as well, i could hear people talking from the other room or whatever they are doing.

Having stayed at over a dozen hotels in Amsterdam for the price, this is one of the best. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nothing amazing or wow factor and the décor and standard of rooms do need some TLC and re-papering however, the service received from reception was fantastic at all times. They could not have been more helpful or friendly. There is a lift to all floors. The breakfast was very good for a continental style. The breads and rolls exceptionally fresh. Good choice of juices. There is a 24 hour bar. Whilst the rooms are relatively small, the beds are one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. Water pressure for the shower was very poor. You can reach the hotel via central station by either a taxi which will cost approx 16 Euros or tram number 2 right outside the main station to stop omega. A downside is the hotel is very near a church that bells ring on the hour and half hour all through the night! Overall, a very nice experience.
