“Beautifully appointed, elegant hotel, on an historic canal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2009

Located on the Herengracht, one of the old canal rings encircling the city, the Ambassade is beautifully decorated - we were open-mouthed at the quality of the furnishings. And it was staffed with friendly, knowledgeable, multilingual employees. The location was perfect - we were within walking distance of museums, the Dam, the Red Light District, the Begjinhof, great restaurants and bars (we loved the Five Flies just around the corner, built in 1634). The breakfast was sumptuous, but seemed a bit pricey, so we only tried it once. WE stayed for 3 nights, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

The Ambassade is not a really bad hotel. It is just far too expensive. The location is very good. The entrance is very promising but the rooms were a big disappointment and so was the service. Our room was small and dark. The room service we ordered was never delivered. One just gets tired complaining to the staff all day but unfortunately you have to.

We enjoyed our stay (3 nights) at Hotel Ambassade in Amsterdam. The hotel staff was friendly, efficient, and helpful, and their English was excellent, assisting with everything from nearby restaurants to tram tickets/directions. Our room had a great canal view. Street noise at night was non-existant.The decor of the room was OK, and the bed was comfortable. Everything was very clean. Breakfast was spotty - sometimes great and sometimes not. Very close to tram lines and walking distance to many attrations, we couldn't have imagined a better location.

I stayed at the Ambassade Hotel for a week in October 2008 with a group of 8 other family members and we thoroughly enjoyed this hotel. The location was great, we walked everywhere, close to all attractions, the staff was incredibly helpful and spoke very good english. The breakfast is excellent, though a little much for most mornings of sightseeing. I will stay again the next trip to Amsterdam.

We stayed at the Ambassade Hotel in early April for four nights. The hotel staff was friendly, efficient, and helpful, assisting with everything from nearby restaurants to tram tickets/directions. Our room (#91) had a great canal view and a large, lovely bathroom. The decor of the room was tasteful, and the bed was comfortable. Everything was very clean. Breakfast was a bit expensive, so we didn't eat at the hotel every day, but it was worth every penny when we did. Very close to tram lines and walking distance to many attrations, we couldn't have imagined a better location. Yes, the room was a bit pricy, but I was really delighted by the whole experience. It was a lovely hotel to return to each night.

I steer clear of hotels with over 20 rooms, and prefer those with even less rooms. However a short notice trip to Amsterdam meant we couldnt stay where we wanted and the Ambassade was recommended so we gave it a try, despite its 59 rooms. It is a very good hotel if you like individual hotels with class and charm and dont mind putting up with (or prefer) what some people might think are the disadvantages of an illogical and characterful layout. Iy was so good i would return even if my original first choice was available.
