“Triple room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

We were travelling with our 10 year old son and didnt want to book a separate room for him. Luckily Ambassade had a triple room which was perfect - it was on the 4th floor and had a bit of an attic feel to it because of the slanted roof. It was charming and perfect. As soon as you walk into the room there is a single bed in its own tiny room - that has a window and bedside table.. then you walk through another door and there is the kingsize bed with a bathroom and tiny living area - but to be honest you dont really spend a lot of time in the hotel room in Amsterdam coz the area is absolutely gorgeous. Its right on the canal and its close to everything. Very cute boutiques nearby and a quaint organic cafe is right around the corner. The triple room gave us some privacy but at the same time allowed us to keep an eye on our son. The staff was very helpful and friendly - i would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: book the triple room if you are staying with your child.

The location of this hotel is fantastic. It's close enough to walk to many of the major points of interest (shopping, restaurants, museums), on a lovely -- and fairly quiet -- canal and street, and convenient to the street car and bus. The renovated canal houses are lovely, and each room has individual style and character. Breakfast was excellent.

The staff were extremely knowledgeable and helpful, giving suggestions and advice, helping with reservations, offering advance purchase tickets to museums, etc.

A couple of warnings (echoing some other reviews): because of the nature of the hotel -- houses linked together that didn't have floors at the same level -- there are a lot of short flights of stairs. Even within the rooms themselves there can be stairs (down from door, steps into bathroom, etc.). For the able-bodied, no problem. Otherwise, it's best to call and make arrangements for rooms with as few steps as possible.

Also, while the location is perfect for seeing the city, if you plan to have a car and make excursions outside the city, you will have to plan ahead. There is no parking near the hotel, so cars have to be taken/brought by valet service, which can take some time and isn't cheap.

Overall, we had a great experience with this hotel!

My room was in an annex, which basically was out the door and a few steps away in a converted old apartment. You step down through this small black door at street level into a very quaint living room with separate bedroom. Loved the feel of not being in a hotel, but with all
The convenience. Very cool and different. Bedroom overlooked the canal. Oh, and great breakfast!

This is a unique hotel located in several old canal houses. You pay dearly for the lovely setting though. We booked their junior suite and the description vaguely mentioned that there were two levels to the suite. What it did not mention was that the bedroom is upstairs and the living room and BATHROOM were downstairs. Not a big deal but the staircase was circular, narrow and harrowing especially at night when nature called. The room was noisy too, lots of street activity. Staff could not have been nicer and the bathroom was one of the nicest I have had in a hotel in Europe.

Stayed in a 2nd floor and basement floor room. Suggest 2nd floor ceilings are higher and more windows. Rented bikes FROM the hotel. Close to everything including the park, Anna Frank, Heineken experience, Red Light, Jordaan, and other attractions.

We spent four enjoyable nights at the Ambassade. It is located in the heart of the "Nine Streets" district of Amsterdam, which means (1) it is very close to the downtown and tourist attractions and (2) it is located in a couple of very old historic buildings. Our room was a garret room on the fourth floor, so it felt a bit camped. The bathroom was quite large, however, and well-appointed. Service at the front desk was excellent. Breakfast, though expensive at 17.50 euro each, was exceptionally good. The only flaw was that during a strong windy rain the fourth evening, our window leaked, necessitating soaking up the water with countless towels provided by the staff.

Stayed here for three days and could not have been happier! The staff was professional, polite and helpful. The rooms were nice and bathroom big. We stayed in a triple room. The hotel is situated in the heart of the city and everything was in walking distance! Lucky for us the weather was PERFECT all three days! 75 degrees with a cool breeze! If you are thinking about this hotel, stop and just book it! Pricey but worth every penny! Would stay again without any hesitation!
