“Quirky annex room was fab!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013 via mobile

My room was in an annex, which basically was out the door and a few steps away in a converted old apartment. You step down through this small black door at street level into a very quaint living room with separate bedroom. Loved the feel of not being in a hotel, but with all
The convenience. Very cool and different. Bedroom overlooked the canal. Oh, and great breakfast!

This is a unique hotel located in several old canal houses. You pay dearly for the lovely setting though. We booked their junior suite and the description vaguely mentioned that there were two levels to the suite. What it did not mention was that the bedroom is upstairs and the living room and BATHROOM were downstairs. Not a big deal but the staircase was circular, narrow and harrowing especially at night when nature called. The room was noisy too, lots of street activity. Staff could not have been nicer and the bathroom was one of the nicest I have had in a hotel in Europe.

Stayed in a 2nd floor and basement floor room. Suggest 2nd floor ceilings are higher and more windows. Rented bikes FROM the hotel. Close to everything including the park, Anna Frank, Heineken experience, Red Light, Jordaan, and other attractions.

We spent four enjoyable nights at the Ambassade. It is located in the heart of the "Nine Streets" district of Amsterdam, which means (1) it is very close to the downtown and tourist attractions and (2) it is located in a couple of very old historic buildings. Our room was a garret room on the fourth floor, so it felt a bit camped. The bathroom was quite large, however, and well-appointed. Service at the front desk was excellent. Breakfast, though expensive at 17.50 euro each, was exceptionally good. The only flaw was that during a strong windy rain the fourth evening, our window leaked, necessitating soaking up the water with countless towels provided by the staff.

Stayed here for three days and could not have been happier! The staff was professional, polite and helpful. The rooms were nice and bathroom big. We stayed in a triple room. The hotel is situated in the heart of the city and everything was in walking distance! Lucky for us the weather was PERFECT all three days! 75 degrees with a cool breeze! If you are thinking about this hotel, stop and just book it! Pricey but worth every penny! Would stay again without any hesitation!

Everyone seems to like this hotel, and they are all correct in their preference. The hotel is located on a canal in an excellent location and the staff is incredibly polite and helpful. Since the hotel is actually an amalgam of several houses, your experience will probably vary based on which room you get. We stayed in a lovely room overlooking the canal in one of the outer buildings. The fun part about this was that you feel you're actually living there and not in a hotel at all; the down side is that you have to walk outside to get to the lobby. This wasn't a problem for us, but you should take it into consideration when you reserve a room. The rooms and public places are all tastefully decorated and not overdone . . it feels very authentically Amsterdam. It's also located in a part of Amsterdam that is considered one of the prettiest so the cruise barges come by often, but it isn't noisy there because all the restaurants and shops are at least a couple of blocks away.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a canal view.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

We stayed here for three nights in August 2013; 2 nights mid-month and one night at the end of the month. Both times, our room was facing the Herengracht. Rooms were beautifully appointed and spacious. Breakfast buffet was very good and highly recommended. Staff were courteous and helpful, providing a solid Indonesian restaurant recommendation for rijstafel. Internet speed was good, and when we had problems on one occasion, management assisted immediately. There was a problem with the taxi charge on our first visit but once we pointed this out to management on our second visit, they made it right. There is a small business center where boarding passes and museum tickets can be printed without hassle. The common rooms of the hotel were not only lovely, but exceptionally well decorated. Wish I'd taken the opportunity to take some pictures. Major, but important downside for me were the twin beds on wheels- while pushed together, it was impossible to cuddle at night because the beds pulled apart and thus we did not sleep well. Would be nice if there was a way to anchor the twin beds together to prevent this problem. The hotel is not cheap, but the accommodation was lovely, location superb, and I'd recommend this to others visiting Amsterdam.
