“Beautiful hotel, centrally located”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

I was charmed by this hotel's quirky charm and construction as the hotel staff took me to the room through labyrinth, friendly, narrow corridors. And when I opened the door to the hotel room, I fell in love. We stayed in one of the smaller rooms, but it was nonetheless beautiful, elegantly furnished and decorated, and with all the necessary comforts and amenities you'd expect from a good standard hotel. Some might think the beds are too soft, but it was perfectly to my liking, and the double sink in the bathroom was a nice touch.

The breakfast room and food were great, and the room service was also very good. I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful, no matter what time of the day it was or who we contacted. A BIG plus for free wi-fi throughout the hotel.

The only small drawback was the noise coming from passers-by and vehicles in the street outside, as our room was on the first floor. But not much to do about that.

Another plus for the offers to hotel guests to the spa a few houses from the hotel. The massage was really great, and the floating relaxation was something to try!

I loved staying here!

Pros: great bed, nice bathroom, free wifi, beautiful breakfast room and sitting room, great service, perfect location.
Cons: lumpy pillows, slightly worn lobby, no turn-down service. The pros vastly outweigh the cons.

Far exceeded my expectations. The room was large, the AC strong and the bathroom was newly renovated. The location is central to most attractions and transit and is situated along a quite canal perfect for a late night stroll. By far, my best stay in Amsterdam!

Room Tip: Book a canal view room -- be sure to confirm it is not a basement room.

We had two excellent stays at the well located Ambassade. We enjoyed the spacious, elegant rooms, the impeccable service, breakfast and convenient locations. The room decor was especially memorable. The staff was a pleasure to deal with, well informed and gracious. Overall, the Ambassade is a reference for excellent, reliable comfortable lodging in Amsterdam.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a canal view.

What a wonderful stay. Only stayed one night, but wished it was longer.

The hotel is spread out through several canal front buildings, so when we entered our building, we felt like a local going home. We had a small canal front room (61) which we loved. The bed was very comfortable, the air conditioning worked very well, but we really did not need it. Great waterfall shower with handheld wand! We had a small sitting area with two arm chairs and a marble table. The closet had a large safe. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The staff was very helpful and friendly with great recommendations for restaurants.

We would stay here again anytime!

Room Tip: Higher floors probably have less street noise, but with windows closed it was not an issue.

A charming hotel in the PERFECT location in Amsterdam. It was within walking distance of every place we went (we do like to walk, but still).

It is beautifully furnished and decorated. The ground floor has a library and rooms with art. Our room had a pretty view of the canal. The staircases are very steep and it is easy to get lost in the maze of them, but that's part of the charm.

The only real problem was that our air conditioner didn't work and they weren't very helpful about fixing it (even after a few days of reminders). It was miserably hot as a result and difficult to sleep.

We booked this hotel based on the other reviews on Trip Advisor and were not disappointed! Beautiful room, great location right on the Herengracht. The hotel is a bit labyrinthian since it is three houses merged over time, but it added to the charm for us. Tram stops and good restaurants are right nearby.

One thing to watch out for: breakfast is NOT included and it is kind of expensive! At the time we went (Aug 2013), around $35 per person. Somehow we thought it was included. However, breakfast is pretty spectacular so we still felt it was worth it.
