My four sisters, my Mom, and I all stayed at the Abassade April 24 to May 1. After booking three rooms on their website I contacted them via email with numerous questions. The staff at the hotel was always helpful and quickly answered my questions. They also got us a few dinner reservations before we arrived.

All three rooms were different. One had the canal view which was wonderful but a little noisy...especially on Queens Day Eve and Queens Day (April 30). My Mom and I stayed in a quiet room that was easy to get to from an outside door. The third room was also quiet and you got there by going up an elevator and around some corridors and up some stairs. The rooms were all nice and comfy.

We paid the extra money and had the breakfast every morning. It was the best breakfast I've had in Europe. There was a buffet of the regular items and then you ordered your eggs, omelets, or whatever. We also ordered coffee delivered to our rooms and they were always there on time. You could even order cappacinos in the afternoon and they would be there within 5 minutes! My Mother twisted her ankle the first day and didn't want to climb the stairs to the breakfast room so they set her up with breakfast in the lobby at a little table. The service at this hotel is the best!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The front desk people were amazingly efficient and extremely patient and helpful with our questions and our requests for recommendations. We had a comfortable, well-appointed room overlooking the Singel Canal. The location was perfect in terms of being able to walk to almost all places we wanted to go. We loved everything about this property, but most kudos to the staff who always made us feel welcome and appreciated.

A wonderful hotel in a great location. We had a lovely room, beautifully decorated, overlooking the canal. There is no bar but they serve drinks, coffee and tea in their several common areas and breakfast in the dining room. Internet access is free. Staff is very helpful and gracious. I recommend this hotel highly.

We stayed at the Ambassade for 2 days prior to embarking on a river cruise. We were looking for a unique hotel that reflected Amsterdam better than multi-national chains. Our research led us first to the Seven Bridges Hotel, but when that was full, they referred us to the Ambassade which was a similar style, in a nearby location, also on the Herengraght Canal. We were not disappointed! The hotel is actually made up of several buildings that are blended into the traditional style of the block. Our room had scenic views of the canal and was light and airy. There was a modern bathroom and other amenities you would expect but the atmosphere and the look remained traditional Amsterdam. There was not a restaurant in the hotel, but an excellent breakfast (at extra cost) was served every morning which was convenient. Perhaps the best part of the stay was the outstanding service. From the first contact by phone, the staff was unfailingly friendly, helpful and courteous. We arrived about 15 minutes before our room was ready, but they made us comfortable in the lobby with a complimentary tea and beer. Sightseeing and restaurant assistance were readily available and useful. On our last day, they stored our bags after checkout so we could go sightseeing before transfering to the ship. This was not a cheap hotel, but the atmosphere and service made it an excellent value and a most pleasant experience.

If you are looking for a bland corporate type hotel with numerous facilities then this place is not for you. If however you are looking for something a little quirky then this may just be for you. The location is excellent on a quiet canal side with a charming lobby and excellent service, we were in a standard room which was newly painted, the and large with high ceilings. We only had an interior courtyard view but some rooms have canal views which are lovely.

The breakfast room is lovely but at 16 EUR is not cheap, there are however some excellent cafes nearby.

The pros - quiet but central location, large room size, newly refurbished, excellent service, high pressure shower

The cons - very soft 'squidgy' beds, no tea coffee in room and no minibar, some rooms can be noisy.
