“An impeccable and charming well located hotel in Amsterdam”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2012

The Ambassade Hotel is perfectly located on the Herengracht canal. This hotel offers its guests, both for private or on a business trip, a discrete and impeccable service in a very homely, clean and cosy atmosphere. The front office staffs are very knowledgeable and happy to give advice on anything from shopping and eating to cultural experiences together with making the necessary booking arrangements. The guest rooms are nicely decorated in a classic modern way together with spacious bathrooms of the latest standards. Both the breakfast in the dining room and the one ordered through room service is of the same high standards and represents good value for the money. The beds are very comfortable.
To the art interested guest the Ambassade Hotel offers an extra dimension with its impressive collection of works of some of the CoBrA artists, representing the European Avant- Guard movement between the years 1948-1951. Walking the hotel corridors, dining room, library and launches offers the interested viewer a CoBrA art experience almost at the same level as the CoBrA museum in Amstelveen will offer its visitors.
If you are looking for “the place” to stay while in Amsterdam, avoiding the crowds and instead enjoying true good service in an elegant environment with beautiful CoBrA works on the walls the Ambassade is your place.

This is a great hotel in a great location. The staff are very attentive and eager to help. The location is very central to explore the centre of Amsterdam. It is located on a canal which adds to its charm.

A smallish and charming hotel over loking a quit canal in the nine streets arera of the city worth visiting for shopping , charm and charactor. Also not far from Dam Square ( the main Sq ) but away from the sleezy side attracting the younger groups loing to be entertained.

Had a short city break in Amsterdam. Ambassade was a great place to stay. Close to the centre, at the a canal. Ideal place to stay when to want to explore the city. Enjoyed the breakfast at the hotel. A combination of a buffet and a la carte, in a beautify room with a view of the canal.

We stayed at the Ambassade Hotel for three nights for a long weekend. Overall the stay was good although is over priced. We booked a superior delux room which was beautiful, but noisy as near to the road and footpath. The service and cleanliness is very good, very fast room service and good attitude from the staff. It is a shame that for the price we paid that you cannot make your own coffee in the room! Location of the hotel is reasonable for shoppers, boat trips and central area. Would we stay again at the Ambassade? Yes but only if we get a better deal...

We stayed at Ambassade Hotel in the month of June 2012.
It was hard to find a hotel in Amsterdam by this time of the year. It took us 3 days to find a room and because I liked the location of this hotel we tried to book it twice with no success. At the third attempt we got it and it was worth it.
Very well located, in front of the canal at the Herengracht. Very calm even at night and near every attraction. Bicycles were available for rent (15 Euros per day), the best way to explore the city.
The service was excellent, everyone at the front desk was helpful, they think out of the box and are very kind. Breakfast was delicious!!! all you want is what you get!. Our room (facing the canal) was beautiful, clean and big enough for the two of us. Hotels in Amsterdam are expensive, this one has an amazing price/value...I invite you to check it out by yourselves.
The hotel is a series of connecting houses so you walk by corridors all the time but these are very well maintained and decorated...you think you will get lost but you find your way...it's original by the way.
Lots of restaurants, cafeterias, bars and shops near by. The weather was great at this time of the year and despite hotels being fully booked, the city never looked or felt crowded.
I'll definitely come back to Amsterdam and stay at Ambassade.
Thanks for a great stay

Room Tip: Room 81 was great for couples. Great view to the canal, huge windows.

We stayed at the Ambassade Nov. 1-9. Our stay was a pleasant one. The room was spacious, the common areas beautiful, and the staff friendly and helpful.

We did request a room change after the first night because of noise, and the staff was most accommodating in honoring our request by moving us to room 46. Our new room was quite comfortable with a canal view. There were two easy chairs in the room that we turned around so we could see the lovely view below. The bed (king) was good and the linens nice. We had ample storage space for our 8-night stay also. The bathroom was luxurious--huge fluffy towels, marble heated flooring, a rain shower as well as a tub. The bath amenities were top notch, though if you need hair conditioner, bring some since none was provided.

Be sure to locate the library. It is a treasure--full of signed treasures! There are walls full of signed books by authors who have stayed at the hotel. The lounge area is also beautiful, as is the breakfast room. The hotel itself is almost a mini-art gallery with many paintings throughout. Since the hotel is actually a warren of connected canal houses, it was fun to wander around to look at the different levels (a lot of stairs!), the different hallways, the artwork.

The staff, as noted above is professional and friendly. We mentioned in passing that we wanted to book a nice restaurant to celebrate my birthday our second night there. After that mention, I received many birthday wishes from everyone on the staff, and even some the next day.

The location is perfect--on the Herengracht in a quiet area (though that first night was noisy for some reason). Within a block or so, however, are many restaurants, the flower market, and the general bustle of the city. As we toured (mostly by walking) the city and noted where many of the major hotels are located, we were so glad we chose the Ambassade because of its calm location. And though we were not in the immediate business and tourist area, we were able to walk just about everywhere--taking the tram only twice and never felt the need for a cab.

The breakfast offering was fantastic--but it should be for 17.50 Euros. I was puzzled by a previous reviewer saying their breakfast was included. When we asked for a price inclusive of breakfast, we were told that there was none. We ate breakfast there only twice precisely because of the price. The price, too, was the same whether you got the continental offerings on the buffet or the cooked-to-order eggs, bacon, pancakes, etc. We would have eaten there more often if there had been a way to pay less for the continental.

There were two "cons" to our stay: 1) We were asked if we would like a newspaper each morning, and of course we said yes. Upon receiving our bill, we saw we were charged 2.50 Euros each day for the paper. We certainly didn't complain about this, but I think we should have been told up front about the charge. 2) It seems these days that most nice hotels have either coffee making facilities in the room or availability in the lobby. Coffee service is available, but for a charge.

The above two "cons" are minor, however, and we would definitely stay here again.
