“Wonderful staff in a charming boutique hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

You cannot go past Ambassade Hotel for wonderful customer service, quiet comfortable rooms with so much character.
We stayed at this hotel for two days at the end of a river cruise. Ambassade lives up to all the reviews on this site. Consisting of ten canal houses connected by way of interesting spiral staircases and corridors makes for a charming hotel. The location was great, very close to all attractions and lots of good restaurants. We chose a Superior Deluxe room to ensure we had a canal view. Our room, which was well appointed and very spacious, overlooked the Herengracht. Friends travelling with us chose the standard double room, it was lovely, very spacious and had a view over the Singel Canal.
I had the misfortune of having my handbag stolen from me in the city. The staff at the Ambassade could not have been more helpful in what was quite a distressing time. I was given access to a phone to make international calls to cancel credit cards and report passports missing. They called the police for me, all and all they went above and beyond to enable us to put the event behind us and enjoy the rest of our stay in Amsterdam.

The service was top-notch from our arrival to our departure. The room was comfortable and attractive with a very well-equipped bathroom. Location was a short walk to most every tourist attraction, and was surrounded by many good restaurants and coffee shops. A definite spot for a revisit. In addition, it was an exceptional value for such a high-quality hotel.

We stayed at this hotel in August of 2012 for the weekend on our tour of Europe. This hotel was perfect. The staff was excellent and very attentive. The location was superb; quiet and serene, and yet very close to everything.

We stayed here recently. The location is great, close to many sights and restaurants and to the tram. The hotel staff was excellent and the rooms were super clean. It was fun just to sit outside and watch boats and people on the canal.

I won’t use this place again. My room was a few doors down from reception in a separate entrance. The breakfast at €17.50 is way too high for what it is. €150 per night for the room is way too high. Price isn’t always the most important thing but it should reflect the experience. There’s no bar, room service is too expensive. The guy who checked me in was great, the girl who checked me out was not.

This is a stylish hotel that straddles two canals. Service is impeccable and rooms are incredible. Walk everywhere...Van Gogh, Rijks, Anne Frank's House, restaurants, and diverse pedestrian shopping streets. Be sure to visit some of the smaller museums around the hotel. We stayed in a bi-level suite that offered us nightly entertainment from our french balcony on the canal and a quiet night's sleep on the upstairs floor. The living room is large with comfortable furniture for lounging. Have a glass of wine and nibbles every evening and enjoy the show as boats full of interesting people flow by your room's french balcony. For a peaceful rest, climb the winding staircase to the very large bedroom within the eaves (which has wonderful slanted windows that open for fresh air and the most comfortable beds and luxurious linens). The bathroom is huge with two sinks, separate shower, and bath...and windows that open onto the canal. This is the best place to stay. It's small, you are treated like royalty, and you feel like you have your own apartment in this fascinating city!

Room Tip: Try one of the suites. They're worth the extra money!

I've stayed at the Ambassade MANY times since the 1980s. And every visit there has been sensational. It doesn't matter if you stay only a couple of nights or if you stay a week or two as I have, you leave hoping to return ASAP, as I do. The staff, the rooms, the central yet serene location, the breakfast room and food, the entire ambience of the hotel are a cut above. You are always treated as if you are a special guest. Those are some of the reasons I love the Ambassade and want to return - as soon as possible.

Room Tip: Try to find a bad room. There is none.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Over the years, the Ambassade Hotel has expanded considerably. Starting with just one canal-side building in 1953, it now has 58 hotel rooms distributed among 10 of these buildings. Eight of these canal-side homes are on the "Herengracht" canal, while two others are located on the "Singel" canal. Other buildings are in use by the Ambassade Hotel too, but for other purposes: a few houses further along the Herengracht is the hotel's Float & Massage Centre known as Koan Float and 150 meters further along the Singel canal you will find the hotel's conference room. Except for the building at 335 Herengracht, all the canal-side buildings are physically interconnected. So as not to unnecessarily damage the original character of these canal-side homes, small sets of stairs and landings can be found at various places in the halls and in some of the rooms themselves to bridge the differences in floor elevations between the buildings. Over the years, two lifts have been installed, making all rooms easily accessible. The canal houses have been carefully restored to maintain their authentic character and all rooms and suites have been stylishly furnished and decorated. The furnishings are predominantly Louis XV/XVI style with the use of colorful fabrics and in all rooms and public areas you will find original paintings by artists from the famous Cobra movement. ... more   less
