“What a delightful find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012

Lovely oozing with Dutch charm. Located on canal in quiet area but easy walk to everything. We arrived wet bedraggled after being let out a ways away in the pouring rain by an errant taxi driver. (It was early morning, our rooms were not yet ready but they whisked us up tot the dinning room for a lovely breakfast and a place to get warm and dry.The bags awaited in our rooms when we got back from sightseeing. The rooms are small but that is part of the charm and by European standards well appointed and roomy. The service is impeccable. The breakfast lovely in a beautiful room. I have stayed at several of the bigger much more expensive 4-5 star hotels but we will be coming back to this one again.

We liked the hotel because it's walking distance to Dam square, red light district, and Anne Frank House museum. You need to take a train or a cab to go to the Van Gogh museum or Leidseplein (where most of the clubs are). We spent most of our time going to coffee shops and coming back to this hotel was just minutes of walking. Be careful of the cab drivers because they will put in their GPS the address or where you want to go and they go around the whole city before taking to your destination just so they can charge you more. We eventually caught up with this scam that they are doing so we literally tells the cab driver that the distance is only such and such kilometers to get there.
The hotel also gives complimentary umbrellas when it's raining. The rooms are a little small but nice royalty like style.
The price might be a little higher than the other hotels but the location and quality of hotel is good.

Rooms were a little on teh small side and the way we got to our room through the use of the lift and the curving and tight staircases was unusual but all part of the holiday experience. Would defeinetly recommend the Hotel to friends (couples).

The Ambassade is a lovely place to stay, charming and well-located. This is well-known on Trip Advisor. I wanted to write about the amazing service that the staff provides. They asked us if we wanted museum tickets in advance -- we were not aware we could do this. Having the tickets with us saved us LOTS of time. And then, after we checked out, I remembered that I had left an English 20 pound note in the desk. I called from the airport, and the staff retrieved it credited the amount to my credit card. Really nice.

Room Tip: If you are bothered by elevator noise, ask to avoid the rooms directly on the elevator shaft. We ha...

My wife and I enjoyed staying in Ambassade Hotel for three days in July. This is a superb hotel that I recommend to any Amsterdam visitor. Its location is perfect – close to everything. The staff was as friendly and helpful as one could wish. We arrived four hours earlier than the check-in time and were accommodated immediately. When we had a problem with internet connection, a separate router was installed in our room free of charge. Our room was quite big, full of light, with the very tasteful décor, it overlooked the canal, which was great.

The Ambassade is far from your usual chain-style hotel. It is composed of a row of canal houses and has style, finesse, a great location and people who understand customer service. If you have a canal-view room, even better! It is close to the action in terms of shopping, people-watching, etc, but also in a tranquil setting. The only concern is that at night there can be loud people walking by, but then you probably get this with most hotels in the city centre. I stayed there for 4 days in July and would certainly return on my next visit to Amsterdam.

This was a truly glorious hotel, a down-to-Earth yet upscale experience. My room had a lovely view of the Herengracht, complete with a small balcony. The furniture was tastefully ornate. The service was exquisite. You felt like you were a guest at a royal residence. Not paying but unwanted visitor but a guest, someone invited--a treasured addition to a magnificent home. I cannot recommend this hotel more highly.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Over the years, the Ambassade Hotel has expanded considerably. Starting with just one canal-side building in 1953, it now has 58 hotel rooms distributed among 10 of these buildings. Eight of these canal-side homes are on the "Herengracht" canal, while two others are located on the "Singel" canal. Other buildings are in use by the Ambassade Hotel too, but for other purposes: a few houses further along the Herengracht is the hotel's Float & Massage Centre known as Koan Float and 150 meters further along the Singel canal you will find the hotel's conference room. Except for the building at 335 Herengracht, all the canal-side buildings are physically interconnected. So as not to unnecessarily damage the original character of these canal-side homes, small sets of stairs and landings can be found at various places in the halls and in some of the rooms themselves to bridge the differences in floor elevations between the buildings. Over the years, two lifts have been installed, making all rooms easily accessible. The canal houses have been carefully restored to maintain their authentic character and all rooms and suites have been stylishly furnished and decorated. The furnishings are predominantly Louis XV/XVI style with the use of colorful fabrics and in all rooms and public areas you will find original paintings by artists from the famous Cobra movement. ... more   less
