“Loved it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2011

Compared to a large chain hotel, this was awesome. Great location, quiet at night, fabulous staff who all speak immaculate English, wonderful canal views. Fantastic breakfast (no lunch or dinner here, like many boutique European hotels), big and comfortable rooms, nothing too much trouble for the staff. Ok, it is quite expensive, but worth it in my opinion. If I ever return to Amsterdam, I won't go anywhere else. Check out the Utube video on the amazing library. There are many places to eat within 5 minutes walk, and both public transport and shopping is within 2 minutes walk. Overall we loved it!

One of the main reasons we chose this hotel was because it seemed to be so perfectly located for what we wanted to do during our four days in Amsterdam. The Herengracht is absolutely beautiful..........and this hotel is actually a series of gorgeous 17th century houses looking right onto the canal. One of the special treats for us was to look outside our window and watch tour boats, and people on bikes going by quietly and continuously past the beautifully tree lined cobbled streets. While walking to or from the hotel whether you looked up at the wonderfully gabled architecture or enjoyed the bridges it was always delightful. We walked, and walked and walked and really never felt tired. The tram stop at Spui was very near to get to museums and you could easily walk to Dam Square or the Jordaan. Obviously this perfect location would never have warranted five stars if the staff and facility had not also been excellent. We could not be happier with the way we were treated. Everyone was always helpful and courteous and everything on the premises was spotless and very attractive. The breakfast buffet was delicious and available in the elegant dining room also overlooking the canal. This hotel was not inexpensive but if you can splurge a little this is where you want to do it.......it will make your stay in Amsterdam definitely a very special experience !

Room Tip: I would suggest calling for a reservation

We had a wonderful room overlooking the canal, where we immediately felt at home. Comfortable and charming, you could be living in Amsterdam. Very quiet, far from Dam Square and crowds. No city noise at night, just the very occasional car passing. And yet, it was not far from anything. The historic part of Amsterdam is big enough to be interesting, but small enough to walk anywhere. We were a 20-minute walk from the museums farthest from us.

Service is friendly and exceptionally knowledgeable. They recommended terrific restaurants for us, after carefully listening to what we were looking for. Afterwards, they listen carefully to your opinions, and their advice is continually being updated.

The breakfast room is full of sunshine and overlooks the canal. Many writers stay here - their autographed books fill the hotel library. There are several beautiful public rooms where you can sit and have a drink at the end of the day.

Room Tip: It costs more, but get a room facing the canal.

This was my second stay at the Ambassade and am sure I will return. The location can't be beat. Had a canal front room and felt like I was a local living a very charmed life. Wonderful breakfast room and very attentive staff that goes out of their way to make your stay comfortable and pleasant. Great recommendations for restaurants and any other services you require.

This is a four star hotel located in the city-centre overlooking the Heerengracht. Despite its central location it is very quiet at night even on the ground floor where we took one of the junior suites. This was imaginatively designed as a sort of mini-maisonette with sleeping area upstairs. The whole set up was spotlessly clean and the service was excellent, unobtrusive but infallibly there when needed. City map was given out unasked but there was thankfully no desperate effort to sell us any extras such as excursions or museum bookings. However, the Reception is happy to do that if asked and they do get a reduction on some events. The hotel provides free internet access and its business centre too is free of charge. The one slight minus point is the breakfast. which is certainly plentiful but rather dull for the price (17 euros 50 per person). There is a lounge with reasonably priced alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks and full room service facilities. All rooms have a mini-bar which is rather expensive. However, as the hotel is near several bars and restaurants, one does not need to be dependent on its eating and drinking facilities. The nearest historical site is Anne Frank's house and St. Francis church both within easy walking distance.

We spent 5 nights at the Ambassade. From the minute we checked in, the service was outstanding. They meet us at the front door and immediately took charge of our large and heavy luggage. We were quickly checked in and escorted up to our room. The canal view was lovely, but it did get a little noisy on the weekends when everyone was out partying on the canal. Comfortable beds, although a little too soft for me, and a big, well-lit bathroom. The breakfast is well worth it, with lots of options - it's served in a beautiful room and again the service is outstanding.

The hotel is very centrally located. We walked everywhere - 15 minutes to the Central Station, 20 mintues to the Van Gogh Museum. Lots of restaurants two blocks away.

One little downside - there is no bar for a evening cocktail. However, the hotel has 24-hour room service so it was easy enough to order wine or tea in the evening. Overall, a very enjoyable stay.
