“Impressive especially for its cleanliness and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2011

This is a four star hotel located in the city-centre overlooking the Heerengracht. Despite its central location it is very quiet at night even on the ground floor where we took one of the junior suites. This was imaginatively designed as a sort of mini-maisonette with sleeping area upstairs. The whole set up was spotlessly clean and the service was excellent, unobtrusive but infallibly there when needed. City map was given out unasked but there was thankfully no desperate effort to sell us any extras such as excursions or museum bookings. However, the Reception is happy to do that if asked and they do get a reduction on some events. The hotel provides free internet access and its business centre too is free of charge. The one slight minus point is the breakfast. which is certainly plentiful but rather dull for the price (17 euros 50 per person). There is a lounge with reasonably priced alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks and full room service facilities. All rooms have a mini-bar which is rather expensive. However, as the hotel is near several bars and restaurants, one does not need to be dependent on its eating and drinking facilities. The nearest historical site is Anne Frank's house and St. Francis church both within easy walking distance.

We spent 5 nights at the Ambassade. From the minute we checked in, the service was outstanding. They meet us at the front door and immediately took charge of our large and heavy luggage. We were quickly checked in and escorted up to our room. The canal view was lovely, but it did get a little noisy on the weekends when everyone was out partying on the canal. Comfortable beds, although a little too soft for me, and a big, well-lit bathroom. The breakfast is well worth it, with lots of options - it's served in a beautiful room and again the service is outstanding.

The hotel is very centrally located. We walked everywhere - 15 minutes to the Central Station, 20 mintues to the Van Gogh Museum. Lots of restaurants two blocks away.

One little downside - there is no bar for a evening cocktail. However, the hotel has 24-hour room service so it was easy enough to order wine or tea in the evening. Overall, a very enjoyable stay.

The Ambassade Hotel is in a quiet area not far from the main shopping streets. The hotel has a library of over 3000 signed books buy authors who have stayed there. Very cool.
Although the hotel did not have a gym or pool, it was less than a 10 minute jog to Vondelpark where there are numerous running routes. Go early because it gets busy in the park in the day.
The hotel did have original rooms as the hotel is made of 10 separate residences joined together. The high ceilings are a nice feature. Be prepared to walk a couple flights of narrow stairs as well.
The staff at the Ambassade made the stay worthwhile. The gentlemen at reception were very helpful and accommodating. The hotel also has bikes for rent which a definite must in Amsterdam.
There are many restaurants, drinking establishments and shops in walking distance. We would definitely stay here again.
Free wifi was a bonus too.

I just got back from Amsterdam and stayed at this hotel for my first two nights in town.
This hotel is great and I would recommend it anyone to stay there. As others have
stated the hotel staff is very helpful (and all good looking) and it is located right on a
beautiful canal and very central and walkable to everything. This hotel also has free
Wifi and two computers you can use for free in the lobby if you need to.

The room we stayed in I thought was large for Europe, in very good condition and also
had a large bathroom with two sinks. The only downer was the shower overflowed quite quickly, but that happened in every hotel I stayed in in Europe...

Just as a contrast i spent my last two nights across town at the Park Hotel and I was stay here over there anytime. From the looks of it the Park Hotel is normally more what I would go for (sort of like a W Hotel), but the Ambassade has more charm and you feel more like a native than a tourist. Go to the Park Hotel for a drink or expensive dinner and stay at The Ambassade!

I only listed this a a "very good" because it is a little pricey. But worth it.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with a canal view.

The concierges could not be nicer. Indeed, most look like they are moonlighting from their regular job as models for Ralph Lauren catalogs. Triple room not large- but European rooms never are. We have a canal view . Very quiet. As noted, the hotel location is perfect- we have walked everywhere. And very clean.

I spent a tremendous amount of time on Trip Advisor (and other sites) reading reviews and felt this research paid off in the case of The Ambassade Hotel in Amsterdam. I only gave it 3 stars for value because it is expensive. That said, I felt I got what I paid for. I would stay here again.

I told the staff I had a minor foot problem going down stairs and they gave me a room with easy accessibility. I ended up renting a bike in Amsterdam because for me the city was a bit too big to be walkable. There are 600,000 people in Amsterdam and 2 million bikes.

I felt VERY safe in Amsterdam as a solo female traveler.

Stayed for the third time at the Ambassade hotel in Amsterdam during a recent business trip back to Amsterdam, and it has been a very pleasant experience yet again. The hotel is a real maze, as it is made of several old Amsterdam houses joined together - but it is exactly this that has allowed this trendy and comfortable hotel to preserve the wonderful authentic charm of true Amsterdam accommodation. The rooms are small, but cute and comfortable, bathrooms clean and well-equipped. The breakfast is served is a beautiful room with a view on one of the most beautiful canals of the city.
The location is absolutely marvelous, right in the heart of the best part of the city - however, trying to get thee in your own rental car will be a real challenge, not even mentioning the parking. My advice would be to leave the car for the night at Europark on Marnixstraat and walk or take a cab from there.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Over the years, the Ambassade Hotel has expanded considerably. Starting with just one canal-side building in 1953, it now has 58 hotel rooms distributed among 10 of these buildings. Eight of these canal-side homes are on the "Herengracht" canal, while two others are located on the "Singel" canal. Other buildings are in use by the Ambassade Hotel too, but for other purposes: a few houses further along the Herengracht is the hotel's Float & Massage Centre known as Koan Float and 150 meters further along the Singel canal you will find the hotel's conference room. Except for the building at 335 Herengracht, all the canal-side buildings are physically interconnected. So as not to unnecessarily damage the original character of these canal-side homes, small sets of stairs and landings can be found at various places in the halls and in some of the rooms themselves to bridge the differences in floor elevations between the buildings. Over the years, two lifts have been installed, making all rooms easily accessible. The canal houses have been carefully restored to maintain their authentic character and all rooms and suites have been stylishly furnished and decorated. The furnishings are predominantly Louis XV/XVI style with the use of colorful fabrics and in all rooms and public areas you will find original paintings by artists from the famous Cobra movement. ... more   less
